My dad passed away due to it being over Christmas and New Years. Not July 4th but same issue. Staff delayed treatment until they returned from their vacation.

Sorry to hear that about your dad but I think you may have missed the point. July 1st is when the new crop of interns start. I am pretty sure his post reffers more to the inexperience of the interns rather then the Holliday weekend itself.

I have to work tonight. Peds unit gets a new rotation of interns every month though.....so the 1st of the month is always scary cause you never know what kind of interns you will get. But July 1st just takes that to whole other level.
I'll either get the intern that wants to be a superhero and have me do a million labs on a poor child just so he/she can cover their bases and look good....OR...I'll get the skiddish one that says "let's just wait and see what the day team says" when I ask for Tylenol for a kid with a fever.
