We’re talking a caloric deficit and deficient protein intake. And he’s convincing us of 10lbs of muscle per month? ?
You get plenty to eat in Basic. And its easy to gain muscle when you're on a systematic conditioning program for the first time in your life, which a lot of these guys are. If you're already relatively fit, like coming out of a HS sports program, you probably won't gain as much.

Not really a song but I did this
And maybe I'm being hyperbolic with 30 lbs
But he's 24 lbs heavier and now he's thick in the right spots
Hell my numbers may be completely off, could have misheard, but the point is he's much improved physically

Impossible
Not true… I went in as a 6’ tall 135 pound high school cross country runner who never lifted weights and got out around 180 pounds with a lot more muscle. The diet and constant PT put muscle on skinny kids.
That was almost 40 years ago so now I’m fat and wear XXL Columbia fishing shirts, 44” waist cargo shorts, and crocs.
Semper Fidelis. And to the OP, congratulations!

Did you meet your son when he was 13?

Stepson.
But I claim him
And if I were a woodworker I'd probably have crafted him something meaningful

IME during in garrison schools was not the availability of food but the time to consume it. If you ended up at the back of the line going into the chow hall you better get ready to channel your inner Joey Chestnut. During Ranger and Sapper school (when in garrison) I drank enough chocolate milk for 5 lifetimes. You can consume a lot of protein and carbs when you are gulping down something with 8g and 26g per cup.

Hey, Ron, I lost 25 pounds in San Diego some 55 years ago but now you and I are the same size!!

We did that
He served in Afghanistan and Iraq. He came home. His graduation picture that we took at Parris Island is beside my husband’s father’s flag that was handed to me for his service in two ‘conflicts’.
Our other son was stationed in the Dakotas and worked in the Air Force during ‘conflict’. He flew over with his B1b and basically loaded bombs and did maintenance among other things from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and other friendly middle eastern countries during that conflict.
None of that ever lessens he gut wrenching worry about those young men.
My dad was everything to me. But his dad was an unsung hero.
Both of their graduation pictures from boot camp are on both sides of that flag. I’m very proud of that.

Congrats fr33manator. You did a good job raising your son. I have 2 sons in the AF. They both graduated from USAFA in 2016 and 2017. The oldest flies C 130s and the youngest flies KC 135s. The oldest is deployed to the middle east now. I hope the youngest doesn't have to deploy there (that would mean the shite is ready to hit the fan with Iran).

Lejeune.
We are in the line now. Hope it moves swiftly. Gave the family a go time (we stayed in Hilton Head) and of course I was the only one ready to go then.
Beautiful weather though. Glad to have the family there for him for this. I can't imagine the ones that don't have anyone show
