re: It bothers me seeing states like Georgia, Texas, and NC just leaving Louisiana in the dust

that crime stat. 90% of crime in Chattanooga exists in a 6 square mile area that no one goes to. We corral our culcha. The rest of the city is the reason people want to live here
So you are telling me that there are crime riddled areas and others that aren't? How unique

Nah I'm saying you don't know what you're talking about.

Neither of the two running for governor have stated that they want to change the tax and regulatory scheme at a real level.
IIRC, David Vitter did just that and he handily lost the election after two RINOs with the help of Bobby Jindal were finished goring the hell out of him in the primary. And now one of them is working for JBE.

2 reasons.. infrastructure (lack thereof) and the climate.

The things that make Louisiana unique and interesting also make it a shithole. It's the way it's always been, and the way it always will be. You just have yo embrave it for what it is or it'll drive you crazy.

the climate.
Texas has the same weather Louisiana does and it hasn't stopped them at all; they've improved in spit of it.

Yet, up until about 40 years ago, New Orleans was considered the main center of commercial activity in the South.
Places like Nashville, Charlotte, and even to a large extent, Atlanta, were sort of the bumpkin wannabes. All have sadly left it in their dust, while we are left clinging to quirky “uniqueness.”
Oh well. Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!

I love New Orleans, but there is no business base except tourism.
As much as people bitch about the “Yankees” taking over Charlotte, Atlanta, Nashville, etc, they’re typically good educated people from Ohio, Long Island/upstate NY. Most are actually pretty conservative, at least fiscally.
NOLA needs a legit Fortune 500 company’s base there (not entergy, but something like Coca-cola, Bank of America, etc), and unfortunately, I think that ship has sailed.

In 1960 the city of New Orleans had more people than Charlotte, Nashville, and Raleigh... combined

Houston was drinking New Orleans milkshake in 1980 and Atlanta was already the most important city for business in the Southeast.

If someone from another state that actually has its shite together moved to Louisiana and presents options for change, the mindset is “frick you, you liberal yankee. We’re good. Cajun Navy, wooh. Don’t need to change for nobody, never”
The “loop” is a perfect example of this! People see the need to grow and expand the city and improve infrastructure but “not in my backyard” attitude prevents it from happening. This isn’t only Baton Rouge, it’s happening all over the state

I lived in Atlanta back in the early 80s when it exploded with growth . Austin has done the same thing .The area outside Austin where I live has seen unbelievable growth in the last 4-5 years . Educated young workforce and a governor that’s business friendly.

By 1980 Atlanta had certainly taken New Orleans’ slot as the South’s commercial hub. NO was still an important center of finance and banking and had a significant oil and petroleum corporate presence. Plenty of people still saw as equally significant as Atlanta as a commercial hub of the South. Although, that was certainly becoming questionable if not somewhat laughable by then. Now it’s not even close.
Point being, it hasn’t been “always” so. The state has slipped in a big way.

Huntsville, AL is the Silicon Valley of the South. Huge areas of development there especially around cyber security and advanced manufacturing
Huntsville is a Welfare City subsidized by the Federal Government. Georgia Texas and NC have private industry and jobs propping them up not the Government. Huge difference there.

Whenever some version of this subject comes up, a few dickschmacks start chiming in with "libtard" this and "progressive" that.
They electronically babble about how "they don't won't no gawddang progressive millenials in thar state!! These frickers would rather wollow in cultural and political shite than expand their minds just a little.
Right now for instance. It's the influx of the so called "progressive millenial" that's gentrifying New Orleans and making parts of the city, that for decades were not fit for human habitation, livable again.
If left up to native new orleanians, no matter what their demographic, the city would continue to be a rancid fricking pile a' shite.

Honestly, enjoy it. Charleston has become unlivable 9 months out of 12. Greenville has no soul and is eating what is left of nature like kudzu. Columbia is captive to the worst kind of corruption. Our elected and appointed officials from 1900 to 1995ish were not prone to abject total corruption. Louisiana had generational, institutional corruption in place. Knowing how to steal and still keep things moving is a lost art. This new crowd only know how to steal.

The ultimate problem is that the millennials moving into NOLA with that mindset are typically trustafarians or the occasional entrepreneur. The ones moving to Atlanta/Nashville/Charlotte/Houston/Dallas doing this have a six figure job at a Fortune 500 company.
