I don't consider throwing out food litter but it's still trashy.
I saw a lady throw three drinks out and a McDonald's bag. I pulled up and said "you are too trashy to be in Lexus"
(You could tell she we proud of the car)
She flipped me off, but it was worth it. Women stew on shite like that.

I was actually eating a banana when I saw this thread. As I often do, I took the peel out in my yard and tossed it behind some shrubs. Quicker than walking to the compost bin.
That said, I would not throw one out the car window or in someone eles's yard. That would be littering, or litering as some call it.

Don't throw food or food waste on the roads. All it does is invite animals to the roadside to eat.

Interesting standard to set. If I had a big fruit tree whose branches extended to my property line and some of the fruit fell onto my neighbors property am I littering? I'm responsible for the tree, and fruit on the ground is littering apparently...

But I wouldn't feel guilty because anything that degrades quickly doesn't hurt in limited quantities.
