that this virus had a 90-100% mortality rate for anyone infected, healthy or not and was spreading with no symptoms like it currently is.
You would see mass riots if this happened. People shooting anyone that comes anywhere near them

Let's imagine, hypothetically, that this virus had a 90-100% mortality rate for anyone infected,

That would be essentially the end of civilization if it had the R0 of COVID19...

In his opening remarks at the March 3 media briefing on Covid-19, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:

“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.”

It's the truth

It's true. Nobody knows what might happen next. In a matter of seconds your life could be over. You never know.

Coronavirus mortality rate is very low, around 3.4%, but people are still losing their minds buying up all the toilet paper and the Dow is tanking.

The virus’s mortality isn’t that high. Not even half that.

But if it *were,* it’s not a low, much less very low figure for a pandemic. Those numbers are dead center of the potential range for the 1918 flu everyone loves to compare to.

3.4% is the number you get when dividing the number of deaths by the number of confirmed cases. The CDC has itself admitted that many who are infected show no symptoms at all, which means there are many more actual cases than the number confirmed. Probably also many more cases that were brushed off as a cold or sinus infection without being tested for corona.

a virus like this with a 90% mortality rate would shut down civilization and would take centuries to recover

People should read about the Black Death to get a feel for what a true catastrophe would look like.

Umm that's not low and if you look at the worldwide numbers it's 3.7%. Places like Italy its 6.6%

I'm not taking that kind of chance. Would you play Russian roulette with 1:20 odds? Better than 1:6 but still shitty.

CDC says flu killed 34,200 out of 35,500,000 infections. That's only 0.1% mortality rate. Corona is way more lethal, like 40 to 50x.
