Is this entrapment?

So some of us were out and about last night and the topic of “run ins” with the law came up. One guy told a story when he was probation and wasn’t allowed to drink. One night he was at a restaurant/bar and his probation officer showed up randomly with other people. The PO offered to buy the guy a drink. The guy accepted and after drinking said drink, the PO said he violated his probation. WTF? The judge accepted the ruling and didn’t throw it out. Granted, the dude was an idiot for drinking, but that should be illegal on the part of the PO

Not sure I buy the story. Do you believe it?

Your buddy needs some Jesus to avoid temptation.

He knew that was his parole officer at the time I'm assuming? If so, that's tricky because there is a natural assumption that the person of authority granted you the privilege to have the drink.
If he had no idea who the parole officer was or what his job was, then he's guilty because that scenario is him just having a drink with what he thinks is a random stranger.

If it's true
1) you need better friends
2) your friend is fricking retarded

100% believe it. The guy is a straight shooter. He had numerous previous meetings with the PO and even made the comment that the officer was a “cool dude”. None of us could believe that was even remotely legal on behalf of the PO and any attorney with half a brain could get this dropped, but the judge accepted it

Jesus doesn't do that. Self-discipline does.

Ex of mine once worked for Probation & Parole Dept. in Baton Rouge. Half of the probation officers (male and female) were sleeping with the people on probation.

Damn. Never been on probation and don’t plan to anytime soon, but one would think it’s not a good idea to befriend your PO outside of your required time with them. That’s asking for trouble.

Is this the same buddy that you need to buy you a beer to help him with his AA meetings, or is this a different buddy with a drinking problem?

lol. Different guy

Yes it is entrapment given the facts so far but something is being left out. Conveniently.

This happened in St. Bernard Parish about 20 years ago to a couple friends of mine.
They had been out drinking and were heading down St. Bernard Hwy. heading to the house when they got pulled over for suspicion of DWI.
Cop did the test and the driver failed and was placed in cuffs in the patrol car. Cop then tells the other guy, who also happened to be drunk that the car they were in was blocking access to a business and told him to move the car up about 20 ft.
Then the cop arrested him for DWI once he moved the car. Don't know how it all turned out, but that was a pretty chickenshit thing for the cop to do.
