Why actually yes, there is...

I've been lucky to not have very many people close to me pass but I was friends with a kid who passed at 20 and a lot of his friends will post on his wall just that they were thinking about him or something that happened that reminded them of him. The family either mother, father, or brother almost always comment that they appreciate the person sharing that with them.

I've never posted on a dead persons wall, but I do feel like that has to really help the healing process of those who were the closest when they see others post things like that.

Of course you are always going to have a few people who are attention whoring on Facebook, that's with almost anything nowadays. But don't let that ruin your perspective on the people who are actually using it as a grieving tool.

Just my two cents.

I've lost so much respect for people on facebook because of stuff like this. People exploiting their sick kids, dead friends and family members for attention. It's pathetic.

What's the difference in this and people posting on here that they need prayers for someone?

Typing "prayers sent" on a message board is the most useful thing a person can do for another

Not much difference other than it is likely that a person on here posting would be more sincere because even if attention whoring, the chances of them knowing anyone IRL are slim. So what would be the reward for gaining sympathy from a bunch of strangers? Just seems less fulfilling to me.

I'll let you in on a little secret: funerals and graves aren't for the dead person either.

I give a lot of leniency to peoples behavior in times of losing a friend.

So do I.

Several years ago I saw an RIP post in Spanish on my news feed. I doubt that was fishing for attention because most of her friends in the mainland US didn't understand the post.

I like it. A girl I knew back in Atlanta died in May and I had no idea until a July RIP post talk talked about how they enjoyed her _______ and she was always ________. Often with a little story and line about how they will miss her.

How could you possibly have a problem with that. Is it ok if my friend lives on by continuing her small Facebook page?

Sometime you have to look in the mirror and ask who's the a-hole in this situation.

Yea.. My wife and I were asleep one night and I heard my phone go off. Come to find out, my wife's little sister ( part of the big brother/sister program) was killed in a Dune Buggy accident. She was only 14 years old. I was notified of her passing via Facebook by her parents. Nothing but we miss you's, etc. on the child's Facebook page. OP is a raging douche for thinking this is the most ridicilous thing on Facebook.
