I'm amazed at the lack of basic Excel knowledge almost every time I interview or encounter a fairly recent college graduate.

Try convincing them to use CoPilot to help. Should get a good eye roll reaction

Wow, so soul crushing… maybe you could put them in touch with someone humble enough to actually help them… like some kind of resource or something.

These people have advanced degrees, I’m here for things like macros to copy, move, or rename mass files or handle and manipulate large data sets, not teach them control D or shift left

A few lines into SAS gets output in a few seconds that would take you hours to do in Excel. When people brag about their exploits with Excel they're just telling the world they don't actually know anything about numbers.

I just did the math on a calculator… it said it would take less time to remediate their basic excel knowledge than to impart you with rudimentary social skills.

Congrats.

It’s hard to imagine I would ever find it “soul crushing” for people who have no familiarity with my profession unable to do some of the more basic things I do. Maybe learn to appreciate it as job security instead?

I just want to push them out of the way and get it done.
Kind of like how I feel when I see non-truckers trying to back a trailer.

They’re my contemporaries, they just choose not to learn the most basic skills that would make their life easier. Meanwhile I’m watching them on a shared screen clicking through in what is a kin to typing with one finger like a 90 year old

Yes, watching Brian Kelly miss the playoffs with Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr. on the roster

I would counter that most people are lazy and apathetic AF. They’d rather just have someone do it for them than learn… because that would take some effort
