Is there any good way to sell nice clothes?
Posted by Tigerfan56 on 6/18/19 at 7:36 pm101
So about a year ago I started a job where I needed to wear dress shirts more, whereas my previous job I could wear polos or casual shirts. As such, I didn't really have dress shirts and/or know how one should properly fit.
I know this makes me sound dumb, but I was (still am) very novice when it came to professional dress. Fast forward to today, and recently through being fitted for a wedding, I discovered that I have been wearing the wrong fitting dress shirts. I never gave slim fits a chance because I have a dad bod. But I discovered the slim fits actually look a lot better on me. The modern fit I have been wearing is very baggy.
Anyway, I have 9 pretty nice dress shirts from Brooks Brothers (ranging from $90-200/piece). These have all been bought within the past 9 months, and I have taken good care of them. It's at least $900 worth of shirts. Is there a good way to sell these or exchange these? I would like to get some money for them in order to buy some more of the fit that I prefer.
If anyone on here cares, they are size 17 34 and in a Regent Fit.

Brooks brothers resale value is limited.
But if you have consignment stores try that. Or eBay.

Just keep them for when you inevitably become fat

Couldn’t you bring them to a tailor?

This is something I hadn't considered.
I think a tailor could definitely alter the waist area and bring that in.
What about the sleeves? They are too baggy, the cuff is also too big. Could a tailor help with that?
I have never tailored dress shirts.

I have already became fat (compared to college).
I am working hard to make sure there isn't a round 2 of that

But, the poster below is correct too, Brooks Brothers is common on eBay. If you're willing to just make a few dollars and unload stuff, not recoup your losses, you will sell it. Just make sure you cover the shipping and what else you get for the clothing is a bonus. I would sell at a good low price on a 'Buy it Now' listing.

No help with the resale. But check out state and liberty shirts going forward. They are an athletic fit and are made of a dry fit type material, so great for hot and humid summers.

Nope. Men’s clothes regardless of quality are not going to have a good resale value. Hang on to them in case you get fat. Quality shoes do hold value though.

Brooks Brothers has several sales throughout the year where their shirts in new condition are $50.00.
(The sale is actually 4 shirts for $199)
So factor that into your potential asking price.
Good luck, sorry I can’t take advantage of your folly.

A good tailor can alter any part of your clothes. You should ask around your area for recommendations.
