Is there an age limit for getting hired on as an operator in a plant?

Long story short. I have a family member looking to get hired into a plant as a process operator. The problem is that he’s in his late forties. Will plants hire people that old? I know that they’re not supposed to discriminate based on age.

The plant always needs people to wave the traffic flag at shift change & custodial.

Absolutely no age limit.
He should go into the interview telling management what they are doing wrong and how to do it right. They'll understand that he has experience and know's what he's doing. He should also use terms like "soy boy" often.

Not saying it's impossible, but it's going to be very challenging to even get an interview.

If he has experience he won’t have an issue. Otherwise plays are hesitant to invest in a guy who might retire in 20 years.

I have a co-worker who is 60 and just got hired by BASF last month. They told him, young people don’t won’t to work weekends, nights or holidays. So they figure, hire and older guy who is reliable and will give them 5-7 years instead of a younger person who won’t show up.
( just relaying what he said and it’s a second hand story)

Sadly Ageism does exist with companies

If they didn't drug test, I'd come out of retirement, move to Louisiana and become a plant baw.
That seems like the life.

If he gets a P Tech certificate, his age won’t be an issue if he’s a stand up guy.

I started at age 43 with no experience and fresh out of Ptec school. That was almost 10 years ago.

Those jobs are not as good as they used to be, from what I hear.

I work at a newer facility and I work a hell of a lot less than I did before. Technology has taken a huge amount of the physical work away. Couldn’t see myself going back to an old, leaky plant where you turn valves constantly. Life is good.

Truth is we could easily find something wrong with a person if age, race, etc. was not to our liking.
There were times we had to select a person of color or a female in order to meet requirements. Otherwise we were always able to look at the complete package. Local people got extra points. If he interviews well he may have a chance.
Maybe go dressed as a black tranny.
