Fun fact depending on the copy/fax machine, a fax can be converted straight into an email or pdf document instead of printing pages.

Not only that you can have a cloud fax machine where your number is answered by a cloud device and sent via email to you. You can also upload PDF’s to this cloud fax and send it via regular phone line if needed.

Also some machines will fax documents to a number of your choice instead of having to print the document, then feed it back in to fax. Now if you have to sign the documents then you have to do the scan and fax song and dance.

Must keep the government cheese factory working.

City , State and Federal government entities are the worse as they have to have outdated tech to keep all the useless people employed.

I love it when a “taxing entity” asked me to fax them income info for employees . I note to them that they asking me to send them the info they forced me to creat in the first place.

You mean like most sane individuals? Nearly every study has shown that people who work from home are generally less productive

The IRS and Canadian taxing authorities seem to think so. Because some rando can't just, oh I don't know, pick up the piece of paper off the machine. Maybe the e-fax version (which kinda seems like email, is more "secure")

I remember around 2013 having to send a fax to Sallie Mae to send some documents and thinking at the time how antiquated faxes were. And that was over 10 years ago.

here are secure ways to send email nowadays, but it was definitely for security at a point in time.

Those that require faxing may not be aware that some people Fax via email, an efax that starts its life as an email. Or if the send a fax it becomes an email.

Well, not a business deal I suppose, but I had some orders from a doctors office faxed to my physical therapist the other day. I guess some places still use them.

There are government agencies that handle secure information that require fax transmission in certain situations. You don't have an old school fax on a secured line, you don't work with them.

Yes. I work for a DME manufacturer and we are required to get faxed copies of prescriptions from prescribing physicians. Secure email is not compliant.

The dial talk of a Fax Machine was identical to the dial up talk of an internet dial up connection in the 1990 period. very confusing.

My last fax was in the virgin islands in 1993 . I had called in to the office checking on stuff, and they requested a fax copy of my passport to process a visa to Kuwait. Accomplished this by going to the business office of The Bitter End Yacht club, They were very helpful

My wife works for an attorney on the real estate side of the business. They have to fax closing documents to some banks because the banks insist they be sent in that manner. No idea why.

It's because those closing docs contain all sorts of PII (Personal Identity Information). Sending that over email can be hacked and intercepted easily. Faxing is a more secure method.

That's why a lot of attorneys, banks, etc. still use fax machines.

Generally pretty expensive if you do any significant amount of faxing with any of the available online services.

I, lazily, bought a Cimfax machine. It works great. We use a few thousand pages a month.
