And that was after blowing all that money on the downtown branch no one particularly wanted which went millions over budget due to the building falling apart before it was complete due to either poor design or bad implementation.

And now serves as little more than a bum/junkie HQ….as anyone with a functioning brain knew it would be.

Judging by the posts on here, we could use more.

It’s not a fraud or a scam. It doesn’t promise to be anything but what it is. A total drain. It’s a necessary evil in a town this size.

That's why they closed the BRPD's torture chamber. They are sending the funds for that to CATS.

My kid's fine. But your entitled to your opinion. Just please keep in mind we don't need any Christian do-gooders to confiscate our library books or harass the trans kids, the school is fine without it. Thanks.

That happens in public schools at a much higher rate. Just saying.

What about the overfunded libraries?

The libraries aren't "overfunded."

However, the automatic waiving of people's library card account debts after 7 years and the proposal to end late fees for people who aren't returning their checked out library items is outright ridiculous. There was a claim a few years back that upwards of $2 million to $3 million in fines still hadn't been collected, and if that is true, then they certainly shouldn't be asking for any tax increases any time soon.

Yeah, there has to be some kind of mass transit system. Lots of people that can't afford vehicles or are not able to keep a license. Uber and Lyft are too expensive for every day use..

Last I heard the library was sitting on 60 million in cash or so.

Did they ever fix the design of the downtown library that had a huge overhang and not enough structural support or bad welds for the overhang and started cracking?

Between the contractor, architects, and the board they all pointed their fingers at everyone but themselves.
Picture from one of their board meetings:

They all hide under state non profits to protect them from the metro council except when they need a tax renewal.

COA, if all the old people in EBRP who are against this would stand up and join they have a vote. They could vote Grimace from McDonald’s out. They don’t.

Other option as the state to revoke their non profit status and put them all back under metro council control.

How many of you regularly show up to vote in these elections when the renewals are up for vote?

There was a renewal for several EBRPSS millages back in March. A whopping 14% of voters turned out & all renewals passed easily. And FTR, approximately a third of my property tax goes to EBRPSS.

While I think it could be run better, at least BREC has some nice facilities. Highland Road Park and Perkins Road are super nice. CATS is basically a group of people laundering tax money under the guise of public transportation.

I went in it ONCE about 6 months after it opened to print something real quick bc my printer was out of ink and I didn’t want to drive to campus.

Walked in to a homeless dude jacking it watching porn on the computer. Not in the corner. But right in the middle of the room and row of computers.
