Well, while the fed government might not be the top ranked overall, I'd bet they are the top ranked when it comes to total number of acres in worthless real estate.

They are a big part of International Immobilaire, at least that's what Michael Corleone said.

Doesn't the Vatican own 25% of International Immobiliare which is the largest landowner in the world? At least that is what they said in the Godfather III.

I now they grabbed up a lot of land in CO, UT and WY because of oil shale. They had in mind to use it during wartime.

Damn. That's a lot of grass to cut.

Apparently the Queen of England owns all of Canada, Australia, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand. The deed to the land is valid due to the countries being under former British control and even as independent countries today they operate under English common law, meaning you can't outright own the land you just purchase "land tenure" from the Crown.
Total value is estimated at 33 Trillion dollars, or twice the amount of debt the US government holds

Poker with the Queen
You: I raise 1 million
Queen: Here's the deed to Papua New Guinea

If I were Canadian or Australian I'd invite the QoE over to kiss the fattest part of my arse.

Wait, Canada and Australia is still part of the UK?

Yes...The Vatican is rich. Purgatory is backing up like a major accident on I 10. It costs to get people into heaven. You gotta pay the toll to save your soul.

I'm Catholic and I never put money into the collection plate and seldom go to church at all for that simple fact that if the Vatican wanted too, they could give all the money they have and change a ton of people's lives. I go on the Holy Days of obligation, Reconciliation once per year and pray every night. My belief is that physically going to a church each Sunday is not going to sway my judgment when the time comes. Live your life right and do the most good for others that you can without filing in to church Sunday to fill the collection plate.

They contain assets so valuable that there isn't a price that could be set. What do you think the sistene chapel would go for on an open market?

According to Georgetown University, the average weekly donation of an American Catholic to the church is $10.
There are 85 million in North America, meaning each week the Catholic Church pulls in $850m through donations.
Only 24% of US Catholics say they attend Mass regularly*.
The turns $850 million into $240 Million.
Not an insignificant amount but much less than your number.

No. They're "independent" countries. However they're part of the British Commonwelth and still consider the Britsh Queen (or King) as their monarch.

Really?! Now that I did not know. So they still answer to Britain. Wait does the Queen own that land on paper only?
Posted on 3/31/16 at 3:32 pm to JoePepitone
To me that figure for how much land the Queen owns doesn't even seem to make sense. 1/6 of the world's land? Huge stretches of that can't be usable, maintainable property as we understand it. I'm sure she's wealthy as frick but come on.

They have enough money to feed all the hungry but to no surprise don't do anything of significance

Yeah ok. That's not legit. Her land "holdings." She has no property rights or real ownership of that land. It's an honorary title.
