And there's ten times as many Hindus, but the Taj Mahal isn't rich. Masses don't always equate to wealth.

According to Georgetown University, the average weekly donation of an American Catholic to the church is $10. There are 85 million in North America, meaning each week the Catholic Church pulls in $850m through donations.
That's North America alone... every week.

With her 6.6 billion acres, Elizabeth II is far and away the world's largest landowner, with the closest runner-up (King Abdullah) holding control over a mere 547 million, or about 12% of the lands owned by Her Majesty, The Queen.
Now compare that to how much "federal land" there is in this country. There are several states out west where the fed government owns literally like 70% or more of the land.
6.6 billion acres is about 1/6th of the land on the planet. So just a little bit more than the feds.
ETA: Not including oceans, obviously. Just wanted to clarify.

As of March 2012, out of the 2.27 billion acres in the country, about 28% of the total was owned by the Federal government according to the Interior Department.
So that's like 635 million acres.

Well I can admit when I'm wrong. And I was wrong.

Well I can admit when I'm wrong. Turns out the Feds only own 2.27 billion acres of land which I guess would put them in 2nd place to the British Queen.
No. 2.27 billion is the size of the U.S.
The Feds own about 28% of that... 635 million acres.

See my edit where I admitted my mistake.

How does Queen Elizabeth own that much land? 1/6 of the earth?
Does she collect that much rent?

The US Federal gov't owns 635,600,000 acres of land
Most of which I am in 100% support. Our federal parks are a world treasure that should be protected into perpetuity

Vatican City itself is easily one of the most concentrated areas of wealth in the world.
If by "The Vatican" you're including all of the wealth of the Catholic Church on top of Vatican City itself, then it's value and riches are literally beyond valuation. They one hundreds of priceless works of art not to mention the value of the land of Vatican City and add in the assets of every church around the world?

That's why I thought the Feds were the biggest land owner. I knew there were several western states where they owned almost all the land. It's crazy how much land they own out there.

I have no idea
Google machine told me there are about 37 billion acres of land in the world.
ETA: Thought you responded to me. My bad.

They've been in charge of z bunch of folks for a long time. If they're not that rich they're doing a wrong.

I'm assuming a lot of the Queen's acreage is located in the former African colonies of the British Empire.
The Roman Catholic Church may not be in first place but it ain't for a lack of trying. Just try to separate them from some of it and see how far you get. I've tried to buy and to lease from them and they shut me down before I got started good.

Look at Nevada. They shouldn't even have a governor. Big fricking deal... you govern like 40 acres of land.
