I have had a cop tell me that it is legal...in Alabama at least

Link?

you need to illegally use the turning lane as a merge, you don't.
quote:You didn't not say that.
Did I say that?

I just looked it up. It's 200 feet per LA Rev. Stat. 32:83. It even specifically says when merging onto the adjacent highway.

I think you're missing the point.
The problem is not people getting into the turning lane, stopping, then merging into their lane when there is an opening. No.
The problem is people getting into the turning lane and accelerating in the turning lane in an attempt to merge into moving traffic. This is dangerous.
Okay. I don't do that.

So we actually looked up the law on this and come to find out it's perfectly legal to do this in Louisiana, up to like 300 yards or somewhere around there.
Good to know. I do it on occasion but am deathly afraid that I am gonna have a head on so if I do it, I typically will just get there and stop till an opening pops up in the left lane.

There's this crazy thing I do where I make a right turn and then make a U-turn* at the next light instead of trying to make a left turn with no light across a busy highway.

No, link to all the contrary evidence.

Where did I say you said I only made left turns?
You asked the question, not me.

Is it? Link?
Depends where you live. Where I live, it's illegal.

You didn't not say that.
I didn't not say what I ate for breakfast today, either.

quote:Again... how does one link evidence of not having caused problems? But here is your link to all of my traffic incidents.
No, link to all the contrary evidence.

You asked the question, not me.

I don't know. I didn't make the claim "All evidence to the contrary."

About your statement.
Which never mentions or implies that you only make left turns.

Well, I didn't say that I did it where you live.
Neat.

Are you always wound up this tight?
Weak.

It varies from jurisdiction, as you have seen. Its a super ambiguous practice, far less standardized than things like 'Right on Red'.
Louisiana: 200 feet
Missouri: Illegal
Arkansas: Legal, provided no acceleration
Alabama: Illegal
Florida: Illegal
Tennessee: Law isn't specific, but the practice is common
Federal Highway Admin: Legal, provided no acceleration
Yeah, it sucks. Yes, its going to happen, and not stop happening anytime in our lifetimes. Learn to live with it.

It's a turning lane, not a merging lane.
Posted on 3/30/17 at 1:53 pm to Pectus
Its called the suicide lane for a reason.
Posted on 3/30/17 at 1:56 pm to Pectus
I actually got hit by a car yesterday that was doing just this
I was in the right lane and changing lanes to the left lane when a car that was in the turning lane tried to merge into the left lane at the same time
Dumb broad

Even better, I just don't let you in and you can sit in the turning lane until someone else does.

quote:The evidence would be all the times I've done it without causing problems. I don't know about where you live, but here they don't report on you not causing a problem - therefore there would be nothing to link.

quote:Yeah... of all the stupid stuff people do on the road, being a do-gooder or a road vigilante is probably one of the dumbest things you can do. You're not going to "educate" them nor prevent them from doing it in the future. At best, you're only going to piss them off so now they're driving improperly and angry. At worst, you're going to either cause a wreck or really piss them off and cause someone to snap.
keep it up and you'll probably experience some road rage before long.

Incorrect. You interpreted it that way, but that's your problem.
