There's this crazy thing I do where I make a right turn and then make a U-turn* at the next light instead of trying to make a left turn with no light across a busy highway.

*assuming U-turns are legal wherever you are.

Go right and turn around, or plan your route better. Nothing you're doing is important enough to drive like a moron.

Years ago, the practice was rampant in Tyler. This usually occurs when the main road has so much traffic that it is difficult to enter the road without using the center lane as a merge lane. In Tyler, it was the result of bad city planning and traffic management.

I still hate drivers that use the turning lane as a merge lane.

About the time Sonic started here, I got into it with some IRL friends on FB joking about Obama and ACA and shite. I told them meet me at the Winn-Dixie. So, I've been saying that for months.

Today's Porn star egg-smashing thread made it natural to include.

Do you know how fricking long you'd have to wait to turn left onto Jefferson during rush hour traffic if you couldn't use the center turn lane?

I think you're missing the point.

The problem is not people getting into the turning lane, stopping, then merging into their lane when there is an opening. No.

The problem is people getting into the turning lane and accelerating in the turning lane in an attempt to merge into moving traffic. This is dangerous.

I've never really seen anyone do this although I don't doubt it happens. A couple days ago, I did see some idiot park his fat SUV in the left turn lane because he was trying to merge into the right lane when the light turned green. Really pissed off the guy behind him.

I plan on my ability to make a left turn. Maybe you can't?

Once again, it isn't that difficult to use the center-turn lane, therefore I don't view it as a problem.

If you're not that good of a driver and it is too difficult for you, then you can turn right and find some other place to make your turnaround. (Though you are just causing more traffic at the light, further contributing to our traffic problems in the city. )

Yeah. If the road is really congested you may never get an opening both ways. Some places off Jefferson I'll definitely pull int the middle turn lane, and then merge once traffic is clear.

But yeah i never pull into the middle turn lane and accelerate up to traffic speed and try to push my way in.

Apparently you don't, without the assistance of an illegal merge.

I can. I'm also able to judge when it would be idiotic to do so. Maybe you can't?

Of course not. Everyone else drives like a jackass, not you.

Where did I say that I only made left turns? I have the ability to judge traffic and use my left turn skills appropriately.

So everyone who turns left is a jackass? Got it.

The best argument one could make in opposition to universal suffrage is to simply point to public transportation and observation of people on the road. Nothing makes me hate people more than driving.

If you need to illegally use the turning lane as a merge, you don't.

Did I say that?

It's funny because we had this same conversation recently at work. Person from up north talked about how it's illegal to use center lane to merge and the only place he's seen it done is in Louisiana. So we actually looked up the law on this and come to find out it's perfectly legal to do this in Louisiana, up to like 300 yards or somewhere around there.

For some reason, people refuse to use the turn lane on 415 when trying to cross over 2 lanes and turn left. They'll stop perpendicular to traffic and block 1-2 lanes instead of getting in the center lane going with the flow of traffic and waiting for an opportunity to merge. It makes me lose it.

Depending on where you live, for instance in Lafayette, that is how that lane works by law.

You mean a center turning lane for both traffic directions I assume? That's a pet peeve of mine as well. I hate motherfrickers using it as a merge lane, I'm just waiting for a head on collision to occur.

I don't mind cars sitting in the suicide lane waiting to turn or merge. I'm not okay with them driving in the suicide lane for any reason....either merging or getting up to their left turn a mile away.
