Is the Speed Queen washing machine the way to go?

Is the Speed Queen still better than the new front loading machines? Anyone have one that can comment on how well it works?

Better than is relative, but Speed Queen is a great no-frills washing machine.
If you need a washing machine that has fancier technology and what not, look elsewhere.

From what I've read on here it's the way I'll go next time if need be. I don't have anyone trying to keep up with the Jone's in my home though.

I just use basic, older model Whirlpools with dials instead of digital controls.
I don't think I could break mine if I try.

And they were like $100 total for both on Craigslist.

We got one 2 months ago and are very satisfied with it's performance. It is smaller than what we had, but we don't do as much laundry now that the kids are fewer.

1 month into my SpeedQueen.
It doesn't have a built in sink, it doesn't look super sleek, and it doesn't tickle my balls....but it washes the hell out of clothes. Really well.
It's a mechanical dial as well, not electronic. Just like the good lord intended.

In a shocker....Samsung, LG etc. are finding that water is integral to the clothes washing process.

We bought a basic Frigidaire set from Best Buy 13 years ago. Both have 3 dials. Very basic. And never been worked on. I take the dryer out about once every other year and take a leaf blower to it. I will never own a front load or any set that has all that electronic crap. Fortunately, they do still make basic washer/dryer combos.

I thought the same thing, but in actuality I can fit more in my SQ, even with the big agitator, than I could in my HE Samsung piece of shite. What most people don't realize, and I admit I didn't, is that when you look in those new machines and see all that space. because the agitator is missing, is you can only fill it about half way because if you fill it all the way the piece of shite suspension rods will break because of all the weight of the wet clothes. Then you'll get the balance error message and have to replace the rods like I did twice before putting that piece of shite to the road. I can pack my SQ to the lid, let it fill with 30 gallons of Earth killing water, and it'll wash the hell out of my clothes.

I've read about a lot of issues with mildew although not with a specific brand. I think it was in Consumer Reports.
We ended up with a top loader because our basement laundry room isn't very well ventilated. Nothing fancy about it, but it had good reviews. I bought it from Sears and it has served us well thus far. If it breaks beyond repair, I'll look into a Speed Queen.

My Samsung HE front loader has been great the four years we've had it. Load the thing full as hell with no issues. Only time it gets balancing issues is with large blankets. Washes great with less water usage. I'm sure the Speed Queen is a great product as well.

I have two Speed Queen washers and dryers. One set at my house is 21 years old and not once have they even been looked at by a repairman. The other is in the country and they are 9 years old and no problems.
About $800 for the washer and I guess about $700 for the dryer but for 21 years and counting I'd say that was money well spent. And I don't recall paying that for the first ones anyway.
And I load the shite out of them. Don't think they won't hold it, they will hold as much as most. Every commercial laundromat uses them and back when I was young and used a laundromat I don't recall seeing one that was broken. Unless you count where someone would try to pry quarters out of them.
