No clue about Dallas and what areas to avoid but my wife wants to attend a small concert there in October and I need to know if we should stay in the area and walk or stay elsewhere and drive to the venue. What do I need to know?

You’re fine in Deep Ellum. It has been completely been gentrified and not the same community it was 20 years ago.

When you go down to deep elem to have a little fun
Have your ten dollars ready when the police man comes
When you go down to deep elem put your money in your pants
'Cause the women in deep elem, they don't give a man a chance

Deep Ellum is fine, plenty of hotels in downtown to stay at. I would uber to and from hotel at night.

FIFY

To be fair, its better than it was 20 years ago, but the chances of your car getting messed with are fairly high.

Its a ‘nighttime ghetto’ if you get my drift.

Shallow Ellum and Medium Ennohpee are much better.

It's not the wild wild west but I would hotel elsewhere and just Uber in. Where are you staying. We could give advice I'm sure, if needed

Last deep ellum concert we went to had a dude around the corner from the venue charging $20 for parking. He was just a random dude with a fake badge that probably made a couple grand that night pretending that he worked for the venue/renting the parking space. I think about that dude and how bad I'd like to knock his teeth out every time someone mentions deep ellum.

No, it is not safe at night. During the day you should be fine. If you are going to the Bomb Factory(called The Factory in Deep Ellum now thanks to cancel culture) you can take an Uber right near it. I was dropped off right in front of it the last show I went to. They now have about 3 different spots for Uber pickup in all of Deep Ellum when you leave that is really confusing. There is no way I would drive & park anywhere in Deep Ellum. There is nowhere to park & if you find a lot you will pay mightily & I don't want my vehicle stolen or broken into.

That being said, the Bomb Factory & Trees are great places to see a show.

What this guy said.
Uber to the venue and go back to downtown or wherever you’re staying after the concert

That’s what I was looking for. Thank you very much! I’ll stay in downtown and Uber in.

Surprised that Trees is still open. I saw Pimpadelic there many years ago.

There's a shooting or three once a month or so down there at night after 1am, from what I read in the DMN...

Stay in uptown if you can for a better experience

been 30+ yrs since I last visited Deep Elum. Some friends of mine were students at SMU and decided to get into the bar & music scene. These cats owned Trees, Gypsy Tea Room, Barley house, Jerobaum, The Green Elephant, Rhythm Room, Muddy Waters, and countless other entertainment businesses. I saw Pearl Jam in 1991 @ Trees and had no clue who they were. Grunge had slowly made it's way East and the Nirvana incident "brawl" had occurred a few months prior at Trees.

regarding the current status of Deep Ellum, others have shared great advice, just be careful and watch your surroundings. No where is 100% safe today since thugs and predators are always looking for the easy victim.

From my experience, the bums are fricking relentless in that area with ridiculous sob stories that they've all rehearsed hundreds of times

pimpadelic where a bunch of assholes. I worked as a bouncer back in 90's. my brother and I where working Trees in 96-97. Lead singer learned a real hard lesson one night when my brother laid him out for running his mouth after having sex with a 16yr old in the bathroom.

by the police presence and the portable police towers i see out there, you should be fine, but i do recommend staying downtown and ubering. i also recommend BBQ at Terry Black's or Pecan Lodge.
