suburbs
There isn't much of a discernible difference between many burbs and neighborhoods in the city. In many cities, you'll never know you've left the city

I'm from the suburbs and 100% understand why people live there.
But I don't want to, and I wouldn't in Dallas either. I like chain restaurants fine. I like the convenience of having nearby suburbs so I can go to Costco and whatnot.
Biggest thing for me is people. In Atlanta neighborhoods, you can have a) trees and yards b) fairly conservative/not batshit/not trashy neighborhoods and c) neighbors where most of the kids are going to big state schools or better. You also have less volatile real estate prices (at least downward, anyway).
In my experience, ensuring b) and c) are hard to do in a lot of suburbs.

eh...this isn't really true in places like Dallas and Houston

But I've had people IN MY HOME make snide remarks about "ugh suburbia" and I've just straight up said, "you are more than welcome to walk your arse back to your capitol hill efficiency" The odd thing is, I'm not really in suburbia, I can walk to the metro and to a few bars
Yeah bitching about Northern VA makes no sense if using the traditional suburban jabs

city people who act smug toward the suburbs really grind my gears.
My favorites are people who life in endless apartments or row houses shitting on some perceived "cookie cutter" subdivision.
In the US, there's only a couple of cities that it matters anyway.

I don't consider Alexandria, a city that existed before DC, to be a suburb
Fairfax? yea

If you're on DNT or 75 going north from downtown, it's indistinguishable. If you're on another north south street going north, Richardson is still very similar. You don't notice too big of a difference from residential areas of Dallas until you hit Plano.

Absolutely is. They are just huge, sprawling metropolises.

I can tell pretty easily if a person/family is from an in town Dallas neighborhood vs Frisco. It's not necessarily better or worse, it's just different.

urban neighborhoods in Dallas and Houston are pretty distinguishable from the suburban neighborhoods
nobody is going to wake up in The Heights in Houston and think they are in Katy

This is true however there are far more neighborhoods in Houston that are indistinguishable.

I'd throw McKinney in with Frisco/Plano/Allen. But NOT The Colony.
I’ve lived in more than one of those burbs and McKinney is the best of the bunch, at least for what I value. Frisco people seem angry. Plano’s demographics are not like the others. Allen is okay
The Colony? Gross. Might as well throw Little Elm in there. TC and LE are the Slidells of the Dallas’ “north shore”.

Depends. There's plenty of cookie cutter places being built in Dallas right now.
The main differences are building styles. Much like in Shreveport. Older parts near downtown have styles similar to highlands and south highlands. Further north looks like Broadmoor. All in all, the further you get from downtown, the newer the houses will be so the styles are different.
There's a little neighborhood going up by me off skillman where the houses are closer together than anything I've seen in the burbs. You can literally high five your neighbor out the windows.
and they're putting a "main Street" style shopping center next to it with an apartment complex.

Yeah there's some trash up there. OP is thinking of the southern end bordering SRT. They've built it up the last 5 or so years.
