Is society becoming too risk adverse?

Looking at the travel board you have folks afraid to go to Barcelona, Six Flags, Mexico, Dominican Republic, etc. I look at travel reviews of other trips and it’s more of the same concerns for relatively safe vacation spots. Travelers/reviewers say a place is dangerous if they see black or brown folks, homeless people, a Waffle House nearby, or a crowded venue because it’s a tourist spot.
I grew up in the 90s in New Orleans, so it blows my mind when I read reviews of places that some say are dangerous and I go there only to find nothing dangerous about it. I’m not sure how some people step outside their front door.

What many people fail to realize is that many vacation hotspots rely on tourism for the bulk of their economic activity. Many of these areas actually have a rather large underclass. You just dont see them often because (as you surmised) the focus is out on the beaches and all the tourists destinations.
I don't let stuff like that stop me from going somewhere. You just need to be careful when you travel. Make a plan of where you want to visit and implement a buddy system with your family.

Who's scared to go to 6 flags? There are definitely certain places of Mexico I don't want to go.

Agreed. Who is worried about 6 flags? And why? In the DR give someone a $5 tip and they are so happy and will give great service.
Hopefully they will be as nice for my next family vacation to beautiful Juarez, Mexico.

The word you are looking for is averse, not adverse.

If I’m on a road trip and really have to pee, I won’t take an exit until I see that it has a Chick fil A or Starbucks.
I’m not risk averse, I’m just a prick.

I once made the mistake of stopping at a sonic to piss. Got my arse kicked immediately upon exiting my car.

Yes.
In fairness, though, my nickname since I was a kid is "stuntman".
