I knew I was going to be nervous so i decided to incorporate it into my first ever speech.

The topic was a brief introduction of yourself and share your life story in 5 minutes.

I walked to the front of the large classroom and sat on top of the teacher's desk.

"Now you may wonder why I am sitting on this desk when everyone else before me stood for their speech. Well that is because I am nervous as hell and my legs are shaking heavily at the moment"...

everyone had a lighthearted laugh and I was completely over my anxiety of speaking to crowds. Got an "A" in the class

Flash Forward 10 years and I'm giving presentations at national conferences

I just showed up extra drunk the few times I had to give presentations and ended up with an A.

This. I get terrible anxiety when it comes to giving presentations sober. Drunk? I turn into fricking Jordan Belfort.

Public speaking sucks but everyone got up and did it without bitching. This bitch will fail so hard in the real world.

It's a real fear but not an excuse. I get anxiety when it comes to public speaking. I only had to do one speech class in college and I was pretty awful. She might as well get used to doing shite that she doesn't want to or that makes her uncomfortable because that's a part of life.

Yes. Fear of public speaking ranks right up there with the fear of death.

However, you don't get out of death, so you shouldn't get out of giving your presentation. Take a shot, give the speech, take another shot. Move on.

I remember it happening twice when I was in college, and both professors told them to frick off. One was just shy, but the other was a woman in a burka during my very last class at Ole Miss during a Maymester, and she would not talk openly in the class and whispered to the woman beside her because she couldn't speak in the presence of men. She only lasted in that class for 2 days after telling her husband that (who waited outside the class the whole damn time). I felt bad for her.

Pussies won't suck it up. If it makes them a touch "uncomfortable" then they need a safe space from it.

State requirement here for Associates and up. (SPE 100)

She would be told to do the class online, where she submits speeches via recording.

Most likely. Everyone had to take it and had to speak when normal people ran the world

Maybe she can put her speech in a group text and send it to the whole class.

It actually helps some people overcome social anxiety.

That's be like signing up for rock climbing class with no arms and legs and asking for an A.

It's a real thing for sure, most people have it to some degree. But that's the reason for the class, to give people some practice at public speaking. So no, it's not a legitimate excuse. And it's not a millennial thing aside from the fact that the college may give her a pass because the standards are lower now.

BTW - Propanolol is a drug that can help with this. I HATE to speak in public and after some research my doctor had no problem prescribing it for me. And I'm definitely no millennial. But my new employer decided that I should speak in public for insane reasons. It does help.

Who thinks they will ever get a job where public speaking, of some sort, isn't an aspect?

Sounds like worker bee level that has no plans for advancement.
