I think it's kinda gross. I use a towel once and wash it myself.

I'll reuse a towel after my wife. Hell I eat her arse after a shower so I damn sure don't have a problem reusing a towel.

I don't count the days, but I usually change when it starts smelling like a theatre floor.

Towels go into dirty clothes after use. No reason to have them hanging in the bathrooms growing bacteria.
