Not a bad choice if you're in witness protection. Otherwise........

My sister n law lives in Albuquerque. It’s scenic in the northern part of the state like Santa Fe, but very dry and dusty in most of the rest. There are lots of Latinos there as well.
The quality of life ranks low.

Lol no. I was at a Brewery in Las Cruces for 4th of July one year. Was being bit by mosquitoes. Couldn't understand how that was possible.

Santa Fe is weird but pretty cool.
Other than that? No.

When I know someone hasn’t traveled New Mexico.

Lived in Clovis on the East side for a few years. Lots of green areas and great weather, but smells like cow shite outside of winter. Desert to the south and mountains to the North. Lubbock Tx is also about an hour East.

Drove through there in 21 to get to Durango, Co. While its landscape is pretty exquisite, pretty, and different, a little too dry for me. Now N. New Mexico south of Colorado is beautiful. Played golf in Farmington one day with a couple who were professors at LSU. They were looking for a place to retire.

Tribes are very important.
George RR Martin lives there and it hasn't inspired him to finish GOT,
Some folks we met there swore Louisiana is ok for state corruption, but we could learn a whole lot more just watching NM politicians
Read the brillian book "House of Rain" to get a real feeling for how dry so much of that part of the world is. And about the Anasazi...

Just drove through NM on way to Colorado. First highway sign we see entering NM was a welcome sign, then immediately the advertisements for weed started. Had read that recreational cannabis and medical marijuana are both legal in New Mexico.

Many years ago we were driving through the desert there and kept seeing signs for a rock shop. The sign said, "Elvis Buys His Rocks From Us!" It was winter time & the weather was crappy as it was raining on the mountains to the left of the road and snowing on the mountains to the right side of the road. So we said, what the hell, let's go check it out. The four of us walked into this run down building that had rocks and things scattered everywhere. The "proprietor" was a drunk old guy who said Elvis was a pretty decent guy who came in occassionally even after he died. He told us we missed Cher by a couple days and she was a "nice kid." It was entertaining and surreal listening to him ramble on. We wished him well with Elvis & his famous visitors and continued on our way. We still laugh about it.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic, but NM is one of the greatest kept secrets as far as visiting.
Their food is on par with Louisiana food, just Southwest food, not Cajun/creole.
There’s a ton of stuff to do there, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands (amazing), Santa Fe, Madrid, Cloudcroft, Taos, Route 66, and I’m guessing the hunting is amazing. I’m not a hunter, but the amount of giant elk I saw, it had to be a hunter’s dream.

I would rather a shopping mall Cinnabon in Omaha, NE.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many secrets anymore in the US. They all seem to be taken over by a certain type of person, thus pricing things out for your average Joe.

If I were to live there permanently I would suggest Los Alamos or maybe close to Santa Fe.
Los Alamos is close to Santa Fe and is basically a small town on top of a mountain.
Did a lot of work at Los Alamos and would stay at the Holliday Inn in Santa Fe,
Albuquerque is a college town and very liberal and kinky weird, but I liked it.
Especially the hot dog place on the west side called the Hound Dog, I think.
NM IS beautiful country with some salt of the earth people.

Drove the I-40 corridor to Arizona in ‘09. Northern NM definitely looks like the Wild West. A lot of Indian reservation casinos. Better place to visit than live

I was expecting higher taxes being they have been Democrats for a long time.

Albuquerque feels very much like Baton Rouge.
