Is media and Hollywood a byproduct of our culture?

Try to think carefully on this one.
Most popular media is usually a reflection of the majority of society's value. Occasionally you get a defiant actor/movie that challenges us, but those are few in the face of conformity.
Most of you have made it clear how you about progressives (inaccurately called liberals). But has it ever occurred that our society in general has created the conditions for it.
When your society does the following
1) promote narcissism through social media.
2) promote one sided divorce laws, there by removing any deterrent for divorce. Increasing single motherhood and potential child rearing problems.
3) Decay of moral values in general be they religious or simply ethical.
4) People are just more informed and more cynical about government. Congress has abysmal approval ratings for a reason.
5) Acceptance of Corruption. Its obvious in Red and Blue states. Hollywood elites arent the harbinger of it.
You say you want "your America back" but what does that mean. The current culture is simply an end result of how easy capitalism has made people's lives. It's also a byproduct of liberating women and different groups of people. Inherently it's not a bad thing.

You got it backwards. I think our culture has slowly started reflecting these fruitcakes...by design

I'd let Kevin Spacey rub my arse for 500k. No homo
I just want to put that out there.

No...they try to drive the narrative.
For whatever reason, they’re currently pushing an agenda to redefine words, make white men appear like dumbass weaklings, and frame every white accomplishment as somehow detrimental to all non whites.
It’s astonishing.

Feel free to explain.
All of things I mentioned are happening. Notice I never said about work ethics. You can have plenty of hard workers, but corruption can ruin or at least hurt real progress.

It's a byproduct of a very limited culture that people then try to imitate.
It's horrible.

Actually, I’m not so sure that our culture isn’t a by product of the media.

The reason is simple: power

The white man hate needs to end. It was never the right thing to do. Honestly, the energy would be better spent uplifting people.
I was referring more to sexual immorality and lavish lifestyles.

I didn't have a television when I was a kid but when I got married I bought one. I was wondering what kind of places people lived in such big houses, with multiple car garages, went to expensive schools, etc. Because no one I grew up with had a lifestyle anything like that.
Hell, even the blue collar types on these shows and movies lived fairly lavish lifestyles.

Values are driven by people who live in Manhattan and in LA. People would do well to reject what they're selling (consumerism, their version of social justice) and turn it all off.

no. no. no.
if anything a very very small part of our culture is a byproduct of the media. BUT, for the most part the media, Hollywood, movie producers, and tv producers have gotten extremely lazy and less creative nowadays. they also know they are losing viewers in droves due to social media and internet related media. this causes them to search for and produce outlandish and unrealistic media to shock and awe their viewers to keep their viewership numbers up. the ignorant naive portion of the country that believes everything that they see on tv or in the movies, then base their culture around these principles/agendas Hollywood or the media is trying to push because of their feelings.
a good example of this is: meteorologist no longer using the actual air temp in forcasts and using "heat index" or "feels like" temps. OR how any time there's a thunderstorm in the Gulf it's the next Katrina or Harvey. it's exaggeration or shock and awe media gotchas, but now it's 24/7.

Politics is downstream from culture. Culture leads. Politics follow. Many of those who are most powerful in our culture ( Zuckerberg, Bezos, Hollywood, the Academy, etc) are openly hostile to traditional American values. Cultural Archetypes are established ( evil capitalist, noble undocumented migrant, racist white guy etc) that ALL reinforce Leftist narratives and attack Conservatives and normality. Wherever one looks , one is told that America is rotten and that we can only be “ reformed “ through State Control of one variety of another. The State can fix inequality, The State can fix racism, The State can reform the very nature of Man.
When I hear “ I want my culture back “ I hear a guy saying he wants to preserve our most worthy American traditions, principles, ideals and Institutions. Stuff like Constitutional principles, equality under the law, Free Speech, Free Enterprise, etc. The kind of stuff that has made America the most successful country in the history of the world and that people literally risk their lives to get to.

I was going to respond along these lines. Although I was thinking more about romance/relationships.
Make no mistake...if you think hollywood and popular culture has not twisted our society's perception of what it means to be in a meaningful and fulfilling relationship, then you are either young or naive.
It's hard to find a woman (or a man too for that matter) these days who doesn't expect their romantic life to reflect the storybook fairy-tale princess BS we see everyday in movies and TV.
Real life is mostly a dull, monotonous grind. But popular media has been telling us for decades that your life must suck if you're not being whisked away to fantastical locales every other weekend.
I’m convinced that Hollywood/tv has played a role in the general rise in divorce rates during that same span.

Correct. It's a pseudo religion.

Would that I might vote affirmative to this post, twice, thrice, or more.

you're hitting on a good example. the modern woman vs the women our mothers and grandmothers were. and i don't mean to turn this into a "woman bashing thread".
but yeah. 30-40 years ago. a woman and her parents could only hope she ended up with a good, hard-working, family man who would be devoted to her and respect her family.
nowadays, even basic basic arse women expect a love tale romance, an underwear model, and a 6 figure salary who spends his entire life worshiping the ground she walks on. when almost no woman is actually worth that nowadays.
TV, Hollywood, government support programs for single mothers, and the unfair divorce laws only support that.

This is certainly accurate, as well. Look at how the rest of the world seems to look upon Americans. Now, to be sure, some actual Americans have gone to other places and acted like boors. But are ALL Americans boors? No.
What do others around the world know of Americans? What they see depicted in entertainment, situation comedies, TV series, movies. Much like Roger, this is what they see and believe. Many in other nations really believed, years ago, that we all lived liked the Ewings in Dallas, or the folks in Home Alone with these humongous homes, jetting off to Paris for Christmas.
And don't get me started on Hallmark movies, while I'm glad there are "positive" movies or "clean" movies, they're just as unrealistic about relationships and expectations.
