The media and Hollywood is one part a reflection of our current culture and five thousand parts the cause of our current culture. It is much more propaganda and brainwashing bias than it is merely the mirror of us. At some point it becomes that, but only because it has been creating the culture it claims to objectively represent.
When asking whether art reflects life or life reflects art, in this case life reflects the art, which was created as a means to reach an end.

It's a reflection of our culture as seen from within the Hollywood bubble.

It is a byproduct of the "average" intelligence person, and everyone below them. See: kardashians being close to billionaires.
Popular culture caters towards the dumb and gullible.
Most smart people don't give a frick about Hollywood and/or the media, unless they profit from them.

I understand where most of you are coming from.
The reason I see it this way is due to how most people act in real life.
I'm not a big Instagram or Facebook man. I rarely go on either. But the vast majority of posts I see are primarily women showing off. And thousands of "feel good" liberal posts.
The narcissism, fabrication, and idealism in relationships is absurd to say the least.
And most Hollywood films pushing this SJW agenda only furthers the notion that this IS MAINSTREAM AMERICA.
Personally, I'm nothing like that. I don't live my life listening to celebrities and pop culture. If anything I'm more in adherence to seeing how things actually work in the real world.

Neither the media nor Hollywood is the voice of mainstream America.
They just happen to own the pulpit and the megaphone.
