Is Mattress Firm a front operation?

It has always perplexed me how these brick and mortar mattress stores are able to stay in business when I rarely ever see cars in the parking lot. The business model itself is antiquated. You can buy mattresses online or wholesale at places like Costco or sams club. They are literally surviving on just new customers given the fact that most people don’t get a new mattress until after 7 years. I imagine these operations generate very little if any profit.

I’ve been sleeping on the same mattress for 20 years.
I wouldn’t know how to choose one. FWIW, I have no back problems and sleep fine anywhere I’ve ever been.

I'm about 99.9% certain the mattress I want and have not stepped foot in a store.
ETA: This will be my first new mattress purchase in 18-20 years.

Saw on FOX today that they need a “professional napper.” No lie.

Go to BR Mattress Co.
If you don't get shot you'll get a quality mattress for dirt cheap.

Kimpton mattresses are the only way to sleep. We have three total in the house and always get compliments when friends stay over.

I'm about 18 months into owning a Purple mattress. The first year was excellent...but I'm starting to have some back pain now. I have bought plenty of mattresses online for my kids, too...but now I am a bit skiddish about buying another mattress online without physically checking it out first.

They can sell 3 mattresses a week and make a lot of money.

If you don’t buy from Matress Mack in Houston than you should burn in hell.

We go through this every few months. There's a freakanomics podcast on this very topic.
In short, overhead is minimal, inventory is held elsewhere, and margins are insane...

I'm leaning towards Saavta. My backup is the Leesa Sapria. I have done a lot of research on all the different mattresses out there and think this will best suit me. I was heavily considering the Purple 3 but I haven't found anyone that has anything but the original Purple so I am nervous to get it.
I may get a Helix single for the hunting camp.

What do you expect to see in the store that will tell you how the mattress will feel after being slept in for a year?

I don't know if it would work or not but I have thought about getting a mattress, doing the entire free trial period (some are 100 days some up to 365 days), return mattress, get another. Thinking about just doing this with every mattress. I should be able to get at least 4-5 years of "free" mattresses.
