Is kicking children out of the house when they turn 18, or mess up, a thing of the past?

I remember this being such a trope growing up "Once you're 18, you're on your own." But now it seems more and more accepted.
I have never personally seen an issue with a kid staying longer if they needed help. Why turn your back on your own children?

That’s extreme. I wouldn’t be ecstatic, but we are talking a grandchild. I can’t imagine being that incapable of generational love.

I think there’s more societal issues upsetting the father in that particular case. I don’t think it’s just about age. I feel like this is a subtle troll of a post.

I cant imagine how anyone 18 years old could afford to live on their own anymore

I find it odd that there’s an unwritten rule in our culture that once you turn 18 you’re suppose to go live by yourself and find your own way. Compare this to some eastern countries where the kids are expected and encouraged to live at home until marriage. Both have their positives and negatives, but living at home till marriage does save a boatload of money.

Not gonna watch that. I was on my own when I moved out and went to LSU. I scraped by and ended up successful. To Paige's chagrin.

I have my kids (one is 20 and one will be 19 on the 29th) on the 18/30 plan. When they were young I told them when they turned 18 if they weren't working or in school they had 30 days to get the hell out. Luckily my oldest has a great job and my youngest has a 4.0 GPA majoring in finance and business.

Our youngest kid will turn 18 with 6 months left in high school. Late birthday.

People's responses to this video are reflective of exactly what's wrong with kids today.
Girl clearly says she's a grown woman.
O.k. Go be a grown woman.
Can't have it both ways.

She gets knocked up by a jobless bloke she’s been seeing for 2 months, while living at home. Her dad seems reasonably calm, all things considered.

Sounds like Yorkshire to me. A bit of Leeds
My kids are welcome to stay as long as they need as long as they put in an effort in life. 100% happy for them to stay during college and when they begin their career to save money
If they laze about playing fortnite or whatever shitty game replaces it and are being a general leech, then conversations will be had

I was the oldest of 4. I left my house when I just turned 18 because my parents were struggling financially. They were lower middle income with 4 kids in the parochial school system. They didn’t kick me out. I just left to relieve the burden. I got a job, apartment and put myself through LSU.

It's only dumb middle class Americans that deliberately handicap their own kids while upper class Americans would do anything they possibly could to push their kids ahead of the pack.
Stick together, nobody works their way from the bottom anymore, the world simply doesn't work like that.
There's enough competition in the world for your kids and lord knows there's plenty of folks praying they'll fail so they can have their opportunity. Why join them against your own kids?

If they are going to school full time, nowadays, they are not gonna be able to afford it.
