I've never needed a transfusion or given blood, so I have no clue what my blood type is. Is that odd?

No, and none of the tests you may get done will include it either, at least not when I've asked. I don't know mine either but know my newborn son's

I think it's up to your parents to teach that to you.

Really no need in day to day life. If you ever need a blood transfusion, the health clinic/hospital will first do a lab test to see what you are.

O positive here

I think most people probably do not know their blood type, as that is checked by the lab anytime you donate or receive blood.

However, a relative of mine was given the wrong blood type in a transfusion and died as a result....so it sure wouldn't hurt to know your blood time to double check.

It's good to know, but it doesn't really matter if you know it or not to be honest.

In a true emergency you'll get O -negative at first, then they will type and screen and crossmatch then give you your blood type.

My point is even if you tell staff the blood type, they won't take your word for it, they will draw the lab to confirm anyway.
