The only thing that bothers me along the lines of flight dress code is the assholes in tank tops. I was close to killing this greasy motherfricker sitting next to me once on a flight. I wish the plane would have re-routed and dropped this dipshit off in Antarctica being this flight was in frickin February.

Why do you people GAF about someone else's self worth?

Those with higher self worth and self esteem tend to be more pleasant, more cordial, and function better within society.

Why wouldn’t you want to be around more pleasant people?

travel in my pajamas. It's not comfy to be dressed up on a 18 hours flight.

There is a middle ground between suits and pajamas. Jeans and tshirt would kill anyone.

And I try to wear tennis shoes in case I gotta run from crazy people in the airport.

It’s a germ filled, skin flaked, aluminum tube with airborne fecal mater floating around the cabin at 35k feet. Nasty arse people are filing in and out of that human test tube day in and day out over many years. Any layer of socks, pants, sleeves, shoes etc that I can put between myself and the nasty people lathering in that funk is all the better for me.

Oh since we're talking about flying slobs and their attire, let's not forget what they leave behind:

I understand good hygiene and not “hooker” type clothes, but why does anybody care what someone else wears on a plane.

People aren’t living to please you. The world doesn’t revolve around your personal preferences. If they aren’t breaking any laws…..

Doesn’t appear you pay attention to the way you dress yourself either.

Black girl flying uniform. Hoodie with hood over their head, neck pillow, pajama bottoms and fuzzy slippers. Stereotypes exist for a reason.

So it revolves around the other selfish people who can't bother with common courtesy?

It’s these types of threads that reveal how old the average user on this board is.

we asked for a more individualistic, libertine society in the 60s.... and this is what it looks like

Vast majority on this board are probably mid-30s.

Not a generational/age thing.

Probably more of a not trashy, self-respect thing.

Yeah im not wearing a fricking button down tucked in to my slacks to sit crammed in a tiny flying box next to gross strangers for hours.

If i have to do that, im going to at least be comfortable doing it.

What's uncomfortable about tucking a shirt into pants? Do you not own clothes that fit properly?

Well, dressing “well” and presenting yourself appropriately has an impact on your self-esteem and self-worth.

Little things that can improve your life.
Yep. As a pilot, when I fly non-rev not in uniform, I usually wear slacks and a button down dress shirt so I can sit in the cockpit jumpseat if needed. Sometimes I wear a sports coat also, even in the summer time (I have a couple of nice linen sports coats). People generally treat you better (especially the airline employees) if you’re dressed nice.

I wrote this:

Expecting American adults to be clean and respectfully dressed when out in public is a pretty low bar. It used to be common courtesy to shower (or at least not stink) before sitting next to a stranger for hours.

And your response is that I must be miserable in my life. Because I want to sit next to at least semi-clean people on a plane? Interesting take.

What are you so busy doing that you don't have "time to worry about stuff like that?"

If having some personal grooming standards for myself makes me miserable, so be it.
