Any mixed relationship will likely have a lot of stress simply because there may not be a lot of commonality to being all sides together.
This can be economic, educational, racial, or otherwise.
This specific example was a kid whose parent had remarried across race and was pretty much an outsider everywhere because of it since he was effectively Carlton Banks with a white stepdad.
He didn’t feel a part of his stepdad’s family when they did holiday events nor did he feel at home with his birth dad’s family because he had little in common with them besides skin tone.
If the wife’s family is going to give you the stink eye for dating / marrying her, your kids will likely get it far worse.
