You can do it if you set up a trust I believe. I personally would delete all social media and get a new phone number and I would only take care of the people I want too. I am sure with the size of my family people would come out of the wood work ,but I would have no problem saying no.

I vaguely remember someone in Louisiana (BR area) winning and they we highly secretive about it. Had an attorney do all the leg work etc. They had it all worked out prior to claiming the prize. I think the person had won before. Close to 5-10 years ago. I looked for the info, but couldn't find it.

Name changes are public record but I would guess it's really hard to find Joe Smith who resides at a p.o. box registered in another city.

Beginning Sep 1, Texas will allow lotto winners to remain anonymous.

Depends on the State. Some States allow the winner to remain anonymous if they want to be. Other States do not allow it because they want to use it for marketing. Pretty crappy in my opinion that someone can't remain anonymous if they want.

What if the sole owner of the trust is an offshore entity wherein the names of the shareholders are kept secret? Like Panama?

You would have to keep going down the chain until you hit the natural owners/grantors.

Possibly by setting up a trust rather than claiming it yourself?
wouldn't the trust have to buy the ticket first? Pretty sure there isn't a way around it

General partnerships (partnerships that don't enjoy limited liability) don't have to register with the secretary of state. Neither do trusts.

Also... while the lottery may, for publicity purposes, allow the check to be picked up and pics taken by an attorney representing the entity... that doesn't change the legal requirements to collect info. And if someone put in an FOIA request, they could get that info, as it is public record.
