I have been told multiple, conflicting things regarding this. Withholding this information is grounds for discharge, should his medical records ever be pulled.
Two different recruiters have said the herpes diagnosis disqualifies my son.

I'm pretty sure Bill Clinton passed a law so that boys like your son can serve

Not an alter, just a dad trying to help his son achieve his dream. Have lurked here a year or so, and have seen some decent advice given by people with a little compassion.
Anyone offering legit, current, info concerning this, I would appreciate.

I thought it was 1 in 3. Either way, if you've had chicken pox, you technically have a form of the herpes simplex virus inside you. So we all got dat herp. At least, that's what I've heard. From a friend of course.

Fever blisters in your mouth is a form of herpes. And it is a virus meaning you can't get rid of it. But I doubt the military really gives a shite.

I've worked on payroll accounting for firefighters/police and military. On average, the municipal employees have much better pay, benefits, and retirement than the military folks.

The military is very cautious about blood born illnesses (since the military is used strategically as a large population of "clean" blood). Herpes is not blood born so it is not a 100% no-go. They will ask so it would require lying to avoid the next step. Once genital herpes is known in a potential enlistee it requires the herpes be amenable to treatment, if it is fine, if the treatment is not effective then it is a no-go. Herpes meds are very good today and so his chances very good.

Oh look, someone who washed out in basic training.
I was a skinny computer nerd in high school and served for six years. Sorry your weak arse couldn't make it.

I don't normally don't wave the flag about my time in and I am actually embarrassed when people thank me for my service BUT the first thing I thought when I read your post was it would sure have been nice, after a long day or night of getting shot at, to have someone like you in the rear... to beat the crap out of.

If they're really your friends you should all have the same std's.

This is in line with the sources I've consulted; as long as the herpes is amenable to treatment, it isn't a disqualification.
Can't understand why two different recruiters are telling my son this, unless this is a new policy.
