Just listened to a motivational speaker claiming he was classified as mentally retarded as a young boy.
He claims he beat it after having a really good teacher who had faith in him.
Does this sound possible? You either mentally retarded or you aren’t.

I’m guessing his childhood diagnosis was inaccurate. Probably some social worker from the school district diagnosed him.
Any mention of a learning disability?

quote:yes, a child can be developmentally delayed and labeled retarded and then catch up, or even surpass.
Does this sound possible?
I don’t think it’s possible with all diagnoses.

It was an old black man, so I assume some teacher just didn’t want to help him. He was probably behind.

It’s more fun to beat somebody on the spectrum. Although check with local ordinances before attempting.

The mind is like a muscle. It improves as you exercise it, no matter the starting point. Are there certain disabilities that will limit the pace of progression or the maximum potential? Yes.

We have plenty of examples right on this site of people becoming temporarily retarded. Just visit the scoreboard during an lsu game. Or if you want to see some long term tisms head over to the poli board.

Autism type conditions, yes. With therapy.

Autism is so wildly diagnosed nowadays that the people with fringe autism scores are just kind of socially awkward, not the types that rewatch the same 5 second clip for hours on end start throwing fists of you touch them.

My friends and ol' lady try to insist that I'm autistic all the time. I don't understand why that became interchangeable with nerd, which I most definitely am. I excel in social situations, but I can also talk for hours on end about the shite that I like and I probably come across as eccentric.
