rair condition system goes not create "cold air" it removes heat from the existing air which leaves cold air
removes it to where? it’s doubtful the heat just goes poof into the night
That is why all AC systems have a venting process to expel the hot air and vent the remaining cold air where you want.. (In a window unit the hot air is vented out side and the cold air flows from the AC unit. In a central air system the hot air is dent outside via the "compressor" outside the the cold air is vent via your duct system to whatever rooms you have set the vents up in.
Again, the components are a evaporator core, multiple fans, and a compressor etc all facilitate this process of removing heat from ambient air leaving cold air to do with what you want.

What was the R value of that sheet? If you drape a moving blanket or a comforter next, you might be able to make some ice cubes for your cocktails!

1st Law of Thermodynamics - Energy can neither be created or destroyed.
And into that the inefficiencies of every system and you're pissing up a flagpole. And getting hotter.

Damn son. Ever been around the back side of a window unit? Ever been anywhere? Ever done anything?

My HVAC team insists this is a bad idea my dear fellow.

What if you just put the unit on a small table or something and run it like that without installing it in a window? Is there any reason you can do that besides the window unit taking up more space the room it’s in?

If shiny hook is very shiny, well-played.
Otherwise HOF dumbassery.

Please explain how you run a window unit if the electricity is out? And if you are running a generator just run your AC. Unless your generator is only big enough to operate your coffee maker.
I have 2 propane portable generators and I run a 2 portable ac units + the 2 window units mentioned above, 2 refrigerators, 1 freezer, a few kitchen appliances and lighting as needed. Been considering a permanent generator but we aren't going to be in this house long enough to spend the money.

It's a window unit, you put it in the window...how hard could it be?

Either this is a weak troll or you are not very bright. You ought to be able to think this through and understand why you shouldn’t.

My in laws lived in western NY state and didn't have central ac. My fil bought a window unit to survive the few hot weeks they had in their summers. (I might add that he thought that this was caused by global warming).
He really didn't understand how a window unit worked and had it set to continually pull outside air into the house and then complained that it didn't work.
I probably shouldn't have, but I would go behind him and set the unit to recirculate. Miraculously, the AC would working and cool the house. He got pissed when he saw that "someone" adjusted his window unit, and he would reset it again to pull air from the outside.
We then would commence sweating until he would leave and I would set it back to recirculate.

The back side of a window shaker is a heat pump. All a heat pump is is a window unit installed backwards. It won't cool if the heat is not vented, or it will at best be highly inefficient.

Portable is the answer. Easy to exhaust outside.

Yes. Put it near the fireplace that is not connected to a chimney.
