If so that's pretty sad, the NYT is only slightly better than CNN these days. I started reading it and the WSJ for covid coverage. After a month I gave up on the NYT.

Werner von Braun called Russia (cold war), Iraq (terrorism), asteroid scares, and said the final straw would be an alien threat. Claims they had the tech to do it then.
I've also always thought Bob Lazar was a little off, but I don't think he was ever lying. It's easy for them to try to discredit him and sweep I'm away. They tried to fully erase his past, and make him out to be a quack, but they slipped up a few times.

This is disinformation put out by the U.S. gov’t for purposes only known to them. If super intelligent aliens did exist, they would figure a way to monitor us without anyone ever knowing. The NSA, Google, Facebook and your phone can do that now. Everything we think we know about extraterrestrials has come from Hollywood. And I suspect that Hollywood has been directly plugged into the intelligence and military establishment from its beginnings.

Is standard operating procedure to test fly secret aircraft in the same location of carrier battle groups repeatedly for 20 years without informing pilots training and scaring the shite out of them? That just seems really irresponsible.
