They see you can't shoot.

They see you are tall.

If you didn't/couldn't dunk, they would just be making MORE fun of you behind your back.

If I could still dunk I would. It is an ability that will leave you one day.

Enjoy it while it last. I have had to learn how to play below the rim since my mid 30s. I bugs the shite out of me that I cannot just raise up over people like i used to.

But I have noticed that the landing hurts so much now. I mean 180-190 and in my 20s was nice, now in my 40s and 220 it hurts. (my hieght 5'10")

I'm 38 and BARELY dunked a ball during warmups of one of my league games. It was a proud moment

I'm 29 but I've gained 20 pounds at this cushy desk job and have been fighting shin splints when I do play regularly.

This is the worst shape I've ever been in and the worst my game has ever been. It's taking some getting used to, but this fat, adult paycheck makes it easier to swallow.

Put the goal in the floor; then midgets would dominate.

So dunk now any time you want, just because you can. You will eventually get old enough to not worry about the other kids perception of you. You will dunk in black socks and sandals.

Also, work on your mid range game.

My situation is almost a carbon copy of yours, only I'm a year younger

I have a court right next to the house I just bought, though. Gonna get back into hooping regularly the rest of the summer. Been a busy start to this year for me. I feel so much better when I can play regularly though.

38 also and about 6' even. I'm making one last attempt at being able to dunk. I could only do it on a regulation goal/ball around the age of 17. I've always been able to grab the rim easily but never dunk since then. Hoping that getting down to about 10% BF will help (which I've never been previously).

I do a lot of douchey things when shooting around but usually I'm the only one in the gym/park. Dribbling drills, juggling (only three balls but try to get creative to maintain hand/eye), attempts to hit backboard from opposite free throw line (via QB roll-out type throws), shooting jump shots from halfway between 3 pt line and half-court (Curry range) to make the normal 3 pt shot feel 'easy'. I don't do any of these things when warming up for pickup games but fun when I'm alone.

So long as you don't think it's douchey for me to block your dunk.

If you can really throw it down hard, it aint douchey. If you are like me, and you can barely scrape the dunk over the rim, you look like an idiot try hard

It's amazing some of the posters here can even get through an entire day with how much they worry about what other people think.

I've seen countless guys try to dunk and never thought they were idiots. I guess I'm not a judgmental prick like that though. It's pretty fun watching them and you get to cheer the occasional guy who surprises everyone by completing a successful dunk.

I'm just saying jumping as hard as you can to barely scrape the ball over the rim won't wow anyone. Even though it is technically a dunk. Now throwing down will wow people even if they don't say it

I can no longer put it in off a drop step. I'm scared to try anything more aggressive than that. It's over and I know it.

I can't dunk. But I can slap the shite out of the backboard when I lay it up. Same level of badassness.

Back in the day when I was young I would dunk all the time because I am white and I could. So if you want to dunk then do it.
