If you live in south Louisiana you could likely find some family affected by the flooding in August that might need the items you are trying to get rid of.

If you posted what items you wanted to get rid of on fb, I'm sure you would have people message you saying they know someone that would gladly take it.

Just one idea

there is no occasion that 700 bucks is worth a bunch of garage sale people up in my yard. I'll dig a hole and bury my shite before I invite a bunch of hammond's finest over for a visit

Depends. I sold some quality stuff at one last year and for about 4 hours worth of time, me and the wife (no pics) walked away with about $300. Not bad to sit and drink some beer.

We didn't have loads of stuff, but what we had, people wanted. The rest we delivered as a write off to the thrift store.

1. Put the individual items on Craigslist
2. Wait for people to show interest
3. ????
4. Profit

Seriously, you will profit and it's easy.

I put a pot plant by the road because it had a huge antpile in it. Walking back up the driveway I heard a car stop and door open. Turned around and some dude was shoving it into his Celica. I started walking back to the road to mention the ants but he jumped in sped off and laughed while giving me the finger.

I've never actually laughed out loud at a post before. Thank you.

I don't live in that area or I would probably do that. Good idea.

We typically have a family yard sale every June or July. My wife and I typically make $1000-$1500 in 2 or 3 days

You accumulate that much crap that you don't need in a year?

If you have some things that are actually worth something then yes, it can be worth it. I am talking furniture, kitchen stuff, collectibles, etc. Those things can sell for a decent amount instead of a bunch of clothes that you are asking for .50 each Also, try to partner up with someone else in the neighborhood to bring in more people. If you don't have any big ticket items then I would absolutely just donate everything.

Depends on how your finances are. If you're not a well-off family or have a large family, that extra couple hundred bucks can be the difference between having a vacation or not.

I know this is the land of OT ballers, but not everyone can afford to give away all they own and replace it for nothing.

We had several garage sales growing up to help fund very unlavish vacations for our big family, and I'm grateful that my parents were willing to bust their arse to provide the best they could for us.

Unless you have some high-end items to sell along with the junk then it is a lot of work with little return.

Literally LOLd and spit out my drink. I'm with you brother. No way I'd want to have to deal with all the people.

I do agree with Nurse tho that you should probably donate all of it. Lots of folks who could use your stuff.

Have a couple friends who grew up as 15 children and their vacations were camping trips. Now most are doctors and all are professionals and all still go camping. And love it and don't give a shite what anyone else thinks.

And they will have a garage sale too.

Honestly, I find that the incremental tax write off that I get from donating is not worth the effort to get it there to donate.

on the other hand, I have only been a part of one garage sale, but I didn't find it to be much work at all and surprisingly ended up making nearly $800 for a bunch of crap that I was ready to throw away. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

No.

Nobody needs your wife's size 36 stone-washed jeans.

And if you do have a garage sale, don't ban "early birds". Early Birds are the people that are willing to pay full price for what you have. The grab the wood furniture, jewelry, collectibles. These are the people who usually have shops (antiques/collectibles) and turn it for profits.

When I garage sale, I am usually out the house at 5:30am, grabbing a news paper and looking for the best bet for a hit.

I mostly do the Highland Rd corridor, then swing up around the Garden District

If I see a garage sale in the paper that seems like might be a good sale, i will get there over an hour early. I will not go up to the house unless the people are outside setting up. I will walk up and ask if it is OK to shop. I have never been told no. I pay full asking price and never barter unless I am buying some kind of large collection (hundreds of dollars). $400 is the most I have ever spent at one garage sale, made over $3500 off of it.

I put all items under garage. At 400 I wake up and sit outside.

Thst is when the flea market people show up and start haggling. I just stop em, they usually want furniture and shite like that so I make sure we have something like that to get rid of.

Then just make up the number you want to make, if it is 800 bucks, just tell tfe hags that they can have what they can have it all for 800 but they have to take everything and give you half right now the rest when they come pick up

They will do the deal, you close the garage, go pick up your signs and will be back in bed prior to 430

You do t have anything to do, you can still just make up some contributions on clothes and shite to Goodwill, they put whatever you want in your receipt

Don't hide fto. Them early bird pros

How is it hard to donate? You can call and they will pick it up. Just inventory for your taxes.
