We had Directv after having Comcast. We switched back to Comcast as soon as our contract was up.

Cut the cord a month ago. Was paying $130 after taxes, fees for Internet+Uverse.

now I pay $50 a month for internet and I signed up for DirectTV Now. Got their $60 per month package for $35 a month plus a free apple tv. I like it so far, I wouldn't pay the $60 they want now for it though.

Unfortunately, I live in the country and don't have any method of tv delivery besides direct or dish. I don't have internet besides a hot spot from att, so I don't have data plan to handle a Netflix, firestorm or whatever.

I had Direct Tv for a bit. Loved them.

Had to switch back to Cox when I moved into a new apartment though.

write down the realistic tv channels you watch regularly or cannot live without. now, ask the family or wife to do the same.now. go look at the sling or psvue (better) package options. does it have everything you need minus the locals? if so, head on over to the Tech Board. They can guide you from there on setting up HD antennas for locals, weigh the Sling vs PSVue options, and if you really want it all and are willing to put in the work, help you setup Kodi.

for fricks sake

I swear it seems like my bill goes up every month.

Unless you're considering switching soon, just look online at the Direct TV price for new customers on 12 or 24 month contract. Call customer service and complain and tell them you want that price. You'll have to re-up on a new contract, but price will be cheaper than out of contract price.

I do this every year with U-Verse...once my contract is up, they put me on the regular price. I call and complain and they give me whatever special pricing they have going on and I just have to agree to another 12 month contract. Pain in the arse to have to keep doing it every year but better than my rate jumping $40 a month

Kodi is great for TV in that you can watch any show the day after it airs.

It is not good for live TV or sports.

One thing to think about is If you drop cable will the internet company charge you for data.

Mine gives unlimited internet usage if you pay for cable, but charges you for internet usage over 500 GB a month.

You will use plenty of internet when you stream everything.

Is there a better deal out there?

I just finished running through my 2 year deal where they had about $60 off the first year and $30 the second year. Now the package is around $130, so I started shopping. Here in Laffy, yes. LUS Fiber. 2 year deal, $130 but I have to keep my 60/60 internet, phone and TV with 2 digital and DVR service. Second year it goes to $170, but my interwebz is $50, which I expense at work. So it'll be back to $120 for the second year.

TV is the most expensive part, but my wife likes to channel surf. Otherwise, I'd hang an antenna off my 70 foot tower out back and catch all the locals and get some Rokus and Kodi boxes.

I'd much rather have DirecTV than Comcast.

People that say they lose DirecTV reception every time it rains, must not have their dish properly installed. We can be in the middle of tornado warnings and I still reception.

I have U-verse for internet. Comcast/Xfinity does offer faster internet speeds. But, Comcast drags a lot too during peak usage.

With U-verse, I have unlimited data and speeds seem to be constant.

Not calling you a liar, but through 2 different systems with DirecTV, 2 types of dishes (old 3 LNB and newer Hi-Def 4 LNB), professionally installed (questionable), I can almost guarantee in south Louisiana, you WILL lose signal when it rains. I have never visited a friend with DirecTV that while watching TV during a storm it didn't freeze or lose signal. I have personally pointed dishes in the parking lot of TouchDown Village, where I've had signals on most if not all transponders above 90, that I haven't lost signal in a storm.

It will happen. Maybe not in a sprinkle, but if you look outside and say "damn, its raining!", your DirecTV is probably stuck or searching for a signal.

Not DTVNow, or any of these streaming services like Sling. I'm grandfathered in to the $35/mo. rate, there's no contract, I can cancel whenever with no fee.

I've found that Sling TV has gotten exponentially better in the last year.

It used to be garbage. Now it's actually pretty good. I stream it through the Xbox one.

Direct TV is in bed with AT&T now so you know they're in the business of f*cking people.
I dropped AT&T U-Verse (keeping internet) and immediately started getting offers for U-Verse in the mail.

I now use an HD antenna for local channels and Playstation Vue to stream "cable" TV. $30/month.

I live in S. Louisiana and I rarely lose my DTV signal. It has to be a very bad storm for my signal to go out and when it does, it's not for more than a few minutes.

I would guess my signal goes out (when we are home) less than a handful of times each year.

Is there a better deal out there?

Yes.

A. Get rid of satellite/cable
B. Buy an AppleTV/Roku, etc
C. Throw a friend/family member a few bucks a month on their bill for their satellite/cable account logins.
D. Spend $15 for an over the air HD antenna.
