Cajun/French culture is massively overrated.

It actually takes a real fisherman to catch freshwater fish
It just takes a fricking GPS location to heave a big piece of dead fish on hook and wait for the fish to bite.............

Let’s be honest, that good food can be made at home. It’s not like it’s some secret recipe that only people of Acadian descent know how to make.

So in other words, if I hate traffic and am almost to the point where I can’t even leave the house or plan my entire day around traffic, North LA would be a better option? I could do without all the crappy strip malls and corny restaurants that the cities of South LA provide. Outdoors, no traffic, low culcha, cleaner overall don’t sound all that bad to me.

There's plenty of culcha in Shreveport, Monroe and Alexandria. Traffic definitely won't be as bad

Shreveport definitely has culcha, but it's easily avoidable. Just stay east of 49 for the most part. Not that there are many reasons to go west of it anyways.

I have gone to North Louisiana several times and in my experience, I think there is a huge difference. Actually, there is a big difference. South Louisiana is cajun and catholic while north Louisiana is redneck and baptist.
Just due to the people who ended up settling in South Louisiana, we have a uniquely diverse group of people that you don't have anywhere else. And there are actually dry parishes in North Louisiana.

There are no dry parishes in the state. It's up to local jurisdictions.

Apparently you haven't been to NELA

FWIW: drinking a bunch of beer and speeding through trails surrounded by pine trees on 4-wheelers is pretty damn fun. One of my favorite things my NLA native fiance introduced me to

I was lucky to have friends with camps south of town and this was so damn fun

It def is nice having land out there.... Her families land also has about 4 nice bass fishing lakes and a sweet cabin. When she first introduced me to it I took my week vacation and said I don't wanna travel anywhere. Spent the whole week out there getting blasted on gas station Budweiser pounders, fishing, and tearing up the trails
I think she found it funny how amused I was by all of it

That's fricking heaven right there.

To be fair ruston is not the same place it was even three years ago. It's on the up and up as far as bars and restaurants, they even have a brewery now. It'll always be a small conservative town, but if you cant find something to do there it's really your fault.
It really isn't a bad place for a nearly 60 year old guy like myself. It's definitely a good place for families.
Ruston has one of the best bike trails in the country at Lincoln Parish Park on SingleTracks.com
The Little League World Series is coming to Ruston in 2019. MyArkLaMiss.com
Lake D’Arbonne on louisianatravel.com is just down Hwy 33

Ruston is pretty damn nice if you like golf, hunting, biking, camping, etc.
Also, ton of shite for retired people to do.
The LaTech love is strong but the people are nice.
Monroe is not actually too bad
I’ll take either over Shreveport, Alexandria and Baton Rouge
