the sad part is this is socializing kids for social media narcissism. that's what it REALLY is, and the parents wouldn't have it any other way

Dude, I know it is annoying and lame. But it isn’t pathological. Did kids like taking pictures in the 80s/90s? Now they are just much easier to share.

Got two kids in grade school. There is always some BS thing going on. I tell no pics I look forward to them getting taught at some point.

I have FB due to some groups I’m in regarding work. Good info and I buy some supplies from some guys on there. I never post on my feed and wife doesn’t much. But many times women post stuff for their family and friends which mostly tends to be other women to see. As much as us as guys don’t care, many women do wanna see stuff like that, especially regarding their family or friend’s children. Not sure why it stresses people out that much

ETA: I’d rather see pics of my old friend’s and relatives I don’t see much families than a bunch of political memes or typed out post.

Social media is conflict escalation for the 21st century and will lead to mutually assured destruction.

The need to chase and show a greater level of happiness than your neighbors is going to drive culture moving forward. And there is a big difference between actually finding happiness rather than chasing it so you look happier than the people you know. That kind of happiness is often an illusion.

I think people get over dramatic about this. What’s the difference between posting a happy picture on FB now and what we did decades ago where we took a picture and hung on the mantle of everyone smiling? Or we had picture albums to show people who came over. Most people back then or now don’t take pictures during a family fight and post them, that would be weird and awkward, yet kind of funny.

Social media has plenty of negatives, the biggest negative is adults spending 10 hours a day on their phones imo, and can’t look away. Whether is due to social media or not

The schools do a dress thing for either 100th or 101st day.

Yep.my daughter's school does 100 days for kindergarten and the 101 days (dalmation-themed) for first grade. I'm just glad they didn't do anything this year for 2nd grade.

I was walking through the woods one time beside one of my fields and found a string with a notecard wrapped in plastic. I could still make out a little of the writing on it and there was the name of a school and a phone number. I called and the principal said the first grade class releases balloons every year on the 100th day of classes with each kids name on one and they make a map of where the balloons were found. This one travelled 60 miles. It was released 3 years before.

Found one of those balloons in our field when I was in HS. It travelled from Texas to Grant parish.

The school puts on the celebration, not the moms. Mom is just dressing the kid up. I don’t know where it started, but it is a weird thing to celebrate...

Women celebrate the most arbitrary bullshite. And in our stupid society now, everything gets an award.

Take kindergarten for example. Why the hell so schools have a kindergarten graduation?
