Sure is.

No it isn't.

If the blacks in that area are against gentrification and their leaders work toward keeping it that way is that racist as well?
It's not racist. It's just stupid.

No. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works

They get mad when white people move away and get mad again when white people move back in. There's no pleasing some people. They just live to be miserable and have some imaginary injustice to fight for.
Best thing to do is ignore them and do what you want. That gets them more fired up, and over time they realize that people don't care what they say (or hopefully they do)

The elephant in the room is that black people are more territorial than white people. Most white people want to live where there are good schools, jobs and things to do. Most black people want to live where they always lived. They will do anything to stay in their hood, even keep it a hood to keep property value down.
It all boils down to this crazy concept of a renting class claiming territory. Which should be impossible. You only own territory you never rent it.
Yet history shows that gentrification will eventually create new less desirable areas as less desirable renters are moved around. As Algiers gentrifies, Harvey and Gretna see a rise in crime. As the lower nine gentrifies Challmette sees a rise in crime. The only way to do away with this problem is to not allow large tracts of cheap housing in any area. Once large tracts of cheap housing become available problems start to happen.

I'm disappointed in several black metro council members tonight. They continue to vote for projects that don't help us address the concerns of north Baton Rouge and will lead to the gentrification of Old South Baton Rouge. The approval of $10 million for the "Tram" in downtown Baton Rouge is shameful. I personally reached out to 7 metro council members. The white council members explained their positions and I understand that, but for the black council members we keep supporting projects that won't help our communities. It's shameful. Don't let them convince you otherwise. I'll be writing on the issue shortly.
Councilwoman Chauna Banks posted this picture in Gary the retard's Facebook rant...
Who the hell is "them" that Chauna Banks is referring to? White people? That's sure what it seems like. Why is a metro council woman fighting white people? Isn't that kind of racist...to fight someone merely because of their skin color?? What the hell??

While opposing gentrification isn't automatically racist, it and racism typically go together.
White flight is more about economics and class than it is about race. Few people would panic about the Huxtables moving in next door. It has everything to do with Section 8 invading a neighborhood like a cancer, injecting trash of all creeds and colors who don't maintain their homes and in short succession begin committing property crimes. These activities drive down home values, the primary source of net worth for most Americans. Whites are forced to flea to save their savings.
Gentrification is the opposite. It brings in law-abiding people who pay rent, start up businesses, and raise the values of the properties they inhabit. This can be detrimental to the poor who live there because that prices them out of the neighborhood. The ghetto never disappears, it just migrates.
While there are legitimate cultural and socio-economic arguments that can be made against gentrification, more often than not, racism is the root cause. This is evident when the same people who complain about gentrification complain about developmenta only happening in affluent areas. Either you want investment and all of the consequences that come with it, or you don't. Either you want increased commerce and value or you want a slum. One cannot have it both ways.

Damn right it is. Most people against gentrification are black, qed racist.

No, it's the same as being a renter though.

I'm sure some podunk trailer park town out in the country wouldn't want a bunch of fancy city folk moving into their town either, but nobody is wanting to move into those areas anyway.
That's happened here out on the county line (for those wanting close proximity to the city without living IN the city) and it's just simply called development. Nobody really gives a frick when it's old, white farmers getting priced out.

There's a difference between getting bought out and getting priced out.

I'm not talking about developers coming in and buying up land for development. I'm talking about long-established farmers on the county line who end up having to sell because of their property taxes going through the roof because of development around them to "improve" the area.

Its a big topic in Birmingham right now. The City Council held a town hall about gentrification a few months ago around a neighborhood that was a majority black and is turning into the hipster/entertainment district.
Everyone who spoke in the town hall was black and if the races had been reversed, it would be the lead story on MSNBC. One man even said "If we don't do anything to stop this, we'll end up with a white mayor."

Well if they aren't selling for a large profit, then they are doing something wrong.

That same sentiment is being repeated across the country. It's obvious that a lot of black folks would rather live with the status quo of poverty, crime, and ignorance rather than have their neighborhoods improved.

Don't you mean being FOR it would be the same as being racist?

Here in Louisville it's a lot of talking out of both sides of their mouths. They don't want gentrification or any kind of "non-local" development (they fought a Walmart being placed in the West End because they didn't like the "design") in prominently black areas. But then they're all for it when Section 8 institutes scattered housing in more affluent areas, moving some of the "trash" out of their neighborhoods while the same people continuing to commit crime in their new housing and drive down the property values of others. Or when they hop on the TARC (public transit) to go to stores outside of their area and run those stores into the ground with theft and other crime they're bringing outside of their neighborhood.
I'm fine with their stances against gentrification and wanting to preserve their local neighborhood culture. But nobody wants to hear about it when the local "culture" involves an area with the highest crime rates because they have no value for said neighborhood.
