The only way to do away with this problem is to not allow large tracts of cheap housing in any area. Once large tracts of cheap housing become available problems start to happen.
and when fed policy is putting cheap housing in those areas... against residents' objections...

That's happened here out on the county line (for those wanting close proximity to the city without living IN the city) and it's just simply called development. Nobody really gives a frick when it's old, white farmers getting priced out.

All of my mom's side of the family are farmers, but they farm in the Branch,
Rayne area. You're right it sucks.

That same sentiment is being repeated across the country. It's obvious that a lot of black folks would rather live with the status quo of poverty, crime, and ignorance rather than have their neighborhoods improved.

Absolutely. We're talking about the revitalization of a poverty stricken neighborhood that was riddled with crime. Now its the fastest growing area of the city and new businesses are opening every day investing in the community. Its quite sad but also very frustrating. Imagine if this were a white community saying these things about blacks moving in:

"Birmingham's Saddest Day"
quote:

Another came right out and warned that if development continues a white mayor will be elected, and everything fought for in the 1960s will be for naught.
