Here's the thing, if you're a millennial or younger X'er, you will be tech support for your kids. Us millennials came up in a time when we had to figure shite out for ourselves, so we learned how to troubleshoot. Boomers never knew how things worked to begin with, and zoomers just expect shite to work and get mad when it doesn't.

Spent 45 minutes on the phone with my mom not long ago explaining how to install and use the ESPN app on their TV so my dad could watch baseball.

That one is tricky because you have to log into Disney+ and your service provider

Yeah, for a generation like all the others in the past that say younger generation is lazy, it's quite ironic how few of them grasp simple technology like working a computer. The cause why? They were too lazy to learn the past 25 years.

Dude I work offshore with people in their 20s, 30s, 40's, and 50's and they can't do basic computer tasks. They don't even know enough to ask Google.

And to answer your question, yes. Me and the in-laws had a sit down about 10 years ago. If you can't figure it out get rid of it. Quit calling me.

It would be maddening if my children complained after we reared and educated them. No student loans.

I bought my youngest Son his first computer back in about 1985. He took to it like a duck to water.
He got me and his mother connected to the Internet when it was all locally owned. About 1996.
He has never indicated any frustration when I need help. He bought me this Apple Tablet that I use. He and his brother set up the Router and system that we use.
I'm blessed.

He is so competent on a Computer but is as backwards on mechanical things as I am on computers.

One day I was sitting watching a football game. Phone rang and he said "Dad I've got a pipe leaking water, would you come down and help me fix it. I said describe it, what size pipe, etc. He said its1".
I Picked up a couple ft of pipe from my shop, stopped at Lowes and bought a couple fittings. I drove down in about forty-five minutes. After I arrived at his house, It took about twenty minutes to make the repairs,.
It was simple to me so I tried to explain the procedure.
He replied, Dad you know I don't understand that stuff.

IMO, that is purpose of families/friends.

My parents are both deceased but my wife (no pics) super glued all the buttons on her moms tv remote that she didnt need to use. About all that are functioning are the power, input, volume and up and down arrow buttons.

She would get a call that all the stuff was in spanish or she had somehow gotten into the settings and changed a bunch of stuff. I swear a 3 year old has a firmer grasp of technology than she does.

Like others, my parents didn't jump on the tech wagon. They each have smart phones but only use the call, text and facebook features. Thank goodness they don't do more than that.

My mother called me upset one time because her computer didn’t have Google anymore. It turns out my dad switched the homepage from Google to his work website. It took 30 mins to convince her to type in the webpage address for Google and it would appear.
