Is a ridiculously low fare worth taking one of the trash airlines?

Have to go to Columbus, OH, for a wedding the first week of June. A one-way flight there from ATL leaving after work hours is $49 on Frontier.
Is it worth dealing with the trash clientele and customer service? Or should I run away from that and just pay the ~$250 for a Delta flight?

Frontier is a poor man's Spirit, if that says anything.

Don’t forget the trap fees

What is a "trash" airline?
All of the majors have low prices from time to time.

A plane ride is a plane ride. Service is comparable to others. Just be prepared to pay for the extras, IF you want them (snacks, beverages, carry on, etc.).

I wouldn’t for a $200 difference

Not if you can afford better.

Frontiers seats are basically folding metal chairs.
That alone is enough for me to steer clear.

Is Frontier really worse than Spirit? I've never flown either I just had in my head it was a step up.
Anyway, I won't even fly American out of ATL so yeah, I'm paying the Delta fare.

Frontier and Spirit have both greatly improved their reliability. The clientele tends to be trashier, but truth be told, as long as leisure demand dominates the industry (until business travel returns), you will encounter trashy people. Even Delta and United have been catering to lower fare passengers. My Delta flight from TPA-ATL yesterday was full of it.
In your case, Delta gives you more certainty that you will arrive, and have alternative options if the flight is cancelled. If that is worth the difference in fare, book Delta.
A few years ago we were looking to book ORD_MSY for a family wedding. American and United wanted $750+, Spirit was $150. We took Spirit and told ourselves that if the flight cancels, we can just take the refund and stay home for the weekend. Neither of us were in the wedding, and were staying with friends. Just like anything else it is situation-dependent. In the end Spirit got us there about an hour late each way. It was fine in the end, the people watching was an unintentional bonus too.

I will fly anyone.
My expectations are extremely low for all US air carriers. Even the major carriers have poor service, portly staff, and the US population is universally gross, so it’s not like the clientele are that much better.

Might as well take a bus.

ATL to CMH? Just fly Frontier, its an hour flight, not worth the extra $200 for free water and crackers.

Best advice I can give you is to fly there at least a day before you have to be there and the same going home. If you have to be at work on Monday and leave on a Sunday, you’re taking a risk.
I’m a pilot and I’ve never seen so many cancellations. They cancel flights for any little thing, especially weather. Crew shortages and computer frickups are common also.
Frontier is a decent airline, save some money and book it.

I am old enough to remember when things like a cup of water or a carryon bag (both things that Frontier, Spirit et al charge for) weren’t considered “extras.”

is $49 on Frontier.
