I’m referring to the standard mileage rate method of estimating the cost, not owning or driving a car. I appreciate I could have clearer in my post.

I think you need to re-read the post. Using the standard mileage rate as a means to estimate the cost of use is optional.

They are clearly retarded, they don't understand its a given rate instead of tracking all expenses. They government is giving you an out to save money on taxes, and they are complaining.

Im not going to go that far, but this is why I concentrate my practice on international and transfer pricing.

I think if you use a company vehicle, then the company can claim it, but if you use your own vehicle you cannot.
Read that again and if you still agree with what you wrote, you should seriously consider hiring someone to do your taxes.

That’s really not thaaaat bad if you consider the changes imposed by theTCJA. Effectively that would be true for most employees. Pre-TCJA, only mileage not reimbursed by your employer was deductible as a miscellaneous itemized deduction subject to the 2% AGI floor. The TCJA suspendeds the miscellaneous itemized deductions.

And my company will continue to reimburse $.38. FML
But in the past, I claimed the difference as a deduction on taxes. Won’t be able to do that now since I can’t itemize past the standard deduction. FML #2

4 miles buys a gallon. I love it.
$1.71/gallon and $0.58 per mile is 2.95 miles per cost of a gallon.

Do you think you should get a deduction for personal use of your vehicle?

I mean, if we must be getting taxed to begin with...yes, of course...deductions all around.

The entire goal should be to get rid of the taxes in the first place.

You should keep worshiping the government and calling other people names online.

You can not worship the government and not be an idiot. A mileage deduction is kind of like a personal COGS deduction.

Then explain how the government is to be funded? I guess what you response will be is that the government shouldn’t exist either but I’ll wait for you to actually post that.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing. We all know how many taxes and how much taxes we pay. We're not just funding the government, are we?

We could get rid of a very sizable amount of the taxes we pay, and we'd still have A LOT left to fund the parts of this country or government that are most necessary (defense and some infrastructure).

And, no, I don't believe the government should exist in its current form. It's a huge problem, and it's getting bigger. It's our primary problem.

I think the opposite is true. Most have no idea how much they pay in taxes.

Most people don't pay income any tax.

So you are for smaller government and less taxes but you are in here complaining about something that lowers the tax burden?

An optional method, no less.

Yeah, agree with both...I have ideas about the latter, too...in regards to voting.

We're not going to be able to disenfranchise individual people, but whatever percentage of a state's population is on any sort of welfare should be deducted from that state's electoral vote count.

Also, we should let California buy their succession from the US. $10 billion, about half our national debt. And we agree to pay for their defense via keeping our military bases on their soil. We get the money, then we take over California by force again...and the entire state gov gets a reboot.

Yes...there's a Reagan quote about this.
