But they do.
There are a lot of billionaires that I don't know what they do or contribute so I can't speak for all them. Most live in Cali and NY too, so cough cough dems.
But Bezos, since we all know what he does. Donated 100 million to feeding America during this pandemic, which runs 200 food banks in the US.
Id rather that 100 mil go to those food banks than the hands of our federal government to waste it.
Some might think differently. And that's fine.

I think a lot of people would agree with you, but that doesnt change the fact that you have to pay income tax and billionaires have the opportunity to pay less relatively.

Call it jealousy or outright ignorance, but I'd be more inclined to believe this donation is part of his tax write-off (as opposed to his good heart). I also wonder how many of his employees rely on that or similar programs to supplement feeding their families.

Top 50% earners pay 97% of income tax. Top 1%, 30%
No one group is undertaxed, some individuals may be (subjective but due to fricked up tax code)
People looking at an individual to make tax policy is like a climatologist looking at one days weather to determine a climate classification.

While this is true. I also don't have kids. So someone with my same salary would pay less taxes than I do with child credits.
So we aren't even on equal footing there.

We get it. You don't think it's fair for the rich to be rich. Your jealousy is noted.
That doesn't change the fact on how much taxes the rich actually pay.

I should've been so upset that a former VP made almost $17M on a book deal and speaking fees that I should have...

voted for a billionaire?

Wrong, I think we should fix the tax system that puts too much of the burden on the $250-$1 million dollar earners.

Oh I'm not saying he did this out of him being mother Theresa. But if he avoided paying taxes by doing a decent thing. I'm okay with it.
I also get we probably shouldn't have to dangle tax breaks in front of people to do the rt thing.

In the U.S., where Amazon's new $15-an-hour minimum wage took effect Nov. 1, the median was $35,096—a new metric reported for 2019. The company said the new wage floor would benefit more than 250,000 Amazon full- and part-time employees and more than 100,000 seasonal workers.
The filing notes that Amazon also provides medical benefits starting the first day on the job, retirement contributions, parental leave for mothers and fathers and career-development programs—benefits that are not included in total compensation calculations.
That's actually not terrible, more than my first full time job.

So what is the cap one should earn that you deem them a good person and not part of the 1% you are claiming to hate?
Or did you buy into the middle class Joe bullshite?

this seems intentionally cyclical and that cycle is what I'd like to see changed (if that's even possible at this point)

The difference is income versus wealth generated….I understand you do not want to tax on appreciation of wealth (ie stocks) until you convert into individual dollars…
I play the game also….what I do not understand is these guys have a small salary (income ) but great wealth…and somehow they converted that wealth into money they can spend on their lifestyle…didn’t bezo just buy a super boat? … so somehow they are converting wealth into disposable money spent on their enjoyment… even if he just paid the capital gains on converting a billion dollars to money it should have showed up as big taxes…
Can not hate the person…but fix the issue….I am guessing his wealth is converted to money in some other country????

How am I white knighting by explaining that the rich do actual pay taxes, and that this article is created in such a way as to make it appear that they don't?
Now you can argue about how much they pay or should pay, but the objective truth is that they do in fact pay taxes. In fact more taxes each year than you and I will ever make in a lifetime.
There's more than this article. The regressive nature of our tax code has all been extensively documented. 10% of income paid in taxes is less than 17% paid in taxes. Dollar amounts mean absolutely nothing. The person paying the 7% higher marginal rate is more greatly impacted by taxation than the other person. This is about as debatable as 2+2 equaling 4.
You keep falling back on dollar amounts, as if they mean anything in the context of this conversation. They don't.

This is you desperately seeking affirmation of your terrible takes and lack of understanding of how taxes work. Basically begging people to accept your terrible opinions because you personally feel harmed by other people's money and success. Lashing out like a confused child.

Buy on credit, smooth income over multiple years to minimize tax liability
