Starting? They've been doing that forever. It escalated in the 80's when the Democratic party abandoned the working class.

"Look at these billionaires paying nothing! This is why a first generation small business guy making 425k a year needs to go from paying 35% to 50% of his income!"

That's what ProPublica is doing here.

used to dickride the ultra rich like many in this thread. Then I realized they are the enemy as much as big government and are practically indistinguishable in our oligarchy. They hate us and our way of life. We should generally oppose the oligarchs.

I don't like Bezos, but he wasn't always worth this much. Same as Gates.

They built empires.

Let's go down a rung a bit. Oprah Winfrey has bitched about taxes, yet is a billionaire and no one bats an eye.

And I don't like Oprah either, but I also think she's entitled to her empire she built.

Progressives don't want to pay taxes. They want everyone else to pay taxes.

Try owning an interest in a limited partnership or other entity treated as a partnership, which earns profits, whereby you have a "distributive share", but you don't actually receive any distribution with respect to that distributive share. Then tell the IRS that you as an individual can't be taxed on those "unrealized gains".

This is completely different than owning shares in a publicly traded company, whose value is tracked minute by minute.

Horrible example.

imagine we'll see more articles like this as Democrats try to drum up support of taxing unrealized gains.

Here's a simple solution....CEOs can't be paid in stock, options, or any other investment vehicle outside of cold, hard cash. End the days where a CEO claims on his taxes that he only made $1M in salary while the board issued him stock options that put another $50M into his brokerage account over the course of the same tax year.

It's bullshite and, in my opinion, one of the most blatant and ubiquitous accounting abuses going in this country.

So weird that a bunch of people who claim to staunchly defend personal liberties want to live under the rule of like 50 rich dudes.

That sent their money to Biden.

Weird how people that want to tax the rich helped fund the guy they wanted in office.

But they also voted in a cop.

Good, because he didn’t. He literally pays 100s of millions.

There is no way this would immediately backfire...nooo..

Why wouldn't you rather have them compensated by stocks than cash? Because then you are actually talking about taking money from others to compensate the CEO. Arent you wanting the opposite?

I'm not saying those resources got them their empires, I'm saying that they should continue to contribute to them (as we do)

And they do. There's a reason why this article specifically targets income tax and not others.

The myth the rich don't pay taxes is just that. A myth.

Why do you and Shrub white knight for people who truly couldn't give less of a shite about you, your family, or any of your relatives and friends? You're nothing but pawns and numbers to them yet you and Rog just love crawling up their asses on TD to defend them.

I'm kind of embarrassed for you guys. Pretty damn cuck-y.

"they" contribute differently than "we" do... sure. I get it.

I'd love to believe it truly ends up being proportionally more than us, but I don't have that much faith in people to act against self interest.

How am I white knighting by explaining that the rich do actual pay taxes, and that this article is created in such a way as to make it appear that they don't?

Now you can argue about how much they pay or should pay, but the objective truth is that they do in fact pay taxes. In fact more taxes each year than you and I will ever make in a lifetime.
