An Iowa judge ruled Thursday that the state cannot deny two transgender women Medicaid coverage for gender reassignment surgery. Iowa residents Carol Ann Beal and EerieAnna Good filed a lawsuit last year after their surgical requests were denied by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).

Why should this be paid for by anyone but the recipient of the surgery? People also making claims of Medicaid not covering cancer treatments in response to this decision.

I'm a live and let live guy for the most part but it's insane that taxpayers are being forced to fund this nonsense.

Medicaid should never be used for any elective surgery, which is what this is.

If that’s the case can it be used for breast implants and penis enlargement?

Paying for psychiatrist visits and medication would be a lot cheaper and better for everyone involved.

I'm sure they won't do a sex change until cancer is healed. Just ask for a sex change, get the cancer treatment, change your mind about sex change. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I am guessing the correct system is Medicare, not Medicaid. Medicaid is welfare.

Medicare is run by the feds. Medicaid is run by the states.

Medicare is 65+ and selected disability.

Medicaid is any age and financially driven.

ETA: medicaid is administered by states but is half funded by feds

Then why in the F does Medicaid feel the need to fund that? Are there an S load of people in Iowa that feel the need to change?
