The Netflix series Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is out now.

I've watched the documentary series on HBO Max and listened to a couple of podcasts on the family. Will almost definitely be watching the Netflix doc, but the actual murder trial seems like a total snooze fest.

It was very interesting to watch. Looking at the preview for the Netflix documentary, it seems to follow the same path to a certain point. It does have more of people involved in the boat crash.

As long as it doesn't try to paint the gay guy killed in 2015 as a gay version of Emmitt Till for shooting to high and gobbling the wrong cock, it's way better than the HBO one.

Buster doesn’t want to risk his law license from being associated with his father’s horseshite. If he wasn’t named Murdaugh he’d be shoveling shite in some South Carolina factory and he knows it. Gotta keep the family tradition going and the law license is what makes it all work.

Point of order:

Buster left law school , let's say, under a cloud.

His Dad got kicked out of the law firm that Buster's uncle is still a member of. Buster, should he pass the bar after his graduation sometime in the future, would have to buy his way back into that law firm, and that costs real money. The elephant in the room is a bean counter adding up Harpootlian's hours, his assistant's hours, the cost of the expert witnesses and any and all other investigators.
Harpootlian isn't doing this for the good of his soul, and the bills are already up for the first financial to go to court.

From what I understand is that the money Alex inherited from his father was put into a trust and that money was allowed to be used to pay for this.

Good points.

Is Buster not out of law school? Isn’t he like 26 or something?

If he hasn’t graduated and passed the bar yet he’s going to have a hard time finding any firm to take him on after all this. And that’s assuming he can get back in to school and pass the bar. I hope the girlfriend is making some bank for him.

She spoke to Maggie just hours before the murders. Mixon said Maggie planned to make dinner for Murdaugh’s parents and Mixon’s family. Maggie had to hang up because one of the boys called her and said she would call Mixon back. Maggie never called back.

Mixon said she called Murdaugh at some point that day — records show shortly before 4:00 p.m. — because his mom was “agitated” after his father was taken to the hospital. She asked Murdaugh to come check on her.

This testimony from Mixon, Alex Murdaugh's parents housekeeper.

Why did Alex wait five hours to go the fifteen minute drive to check on his Mom? Sure she was agitated, but Alzheimer's folks might have recognized her son and gotten some peace from his visit.

Just got done watching the Netflix documentary. Similar to the HBO one. It was interesting to hear from all of the boat victims and the Beach family. Had some different videos. If you have been following the trial, you can tell this documentary was filmed sometime last fall.

Sounds like someone with a very important schedule or timeline that they did not want to deviate from.
But all he did was drive around with Paul on the ATV, eat dinner and then take a nap first. I guess he really needed that nap.

Harpootlian's hours

I haven't followed the whole case other than reading this thread. Isn't Harpootlian known as the best defense attorney in the state? The state tore AM apart but it'll be interesting to see what his defense is and if he's as good as I've heard. From what I've watched the defense seemed defeated but big money defense attorneys can spin reasonable doubt like a damn magician. This trial is about to get interesting

At worst one of the best. This is what I wrote about him earlier ITT when someone commented about Dick being one of the most powerful attorneys in SC.

quote:

Between Dick Harpootlian and Jack Swerling as SC criminal lawyers I would pick Jack, they don't call him Mr. Murder for nothing.

Funny enough they actually faced off against each other in one of SC's most infamous serial killer/rapist cases, Pee Wee Gaskins. Dick was the prosecutor and Jack was the defense attorney. They also practiced together for years at Swerling, Harpootlian and McCulloch.

They have similar "power" but Jack's is bottom-up and Dick's is top-down to wit Dick's wife Jaime is the Ambassador to Slovenia and as an aside is a Tulane law grad.

LINK

This link ties to Paul's girlfriend (since they were Juniors in High School) and things that are discussed on the Netflix Murtaugh series.
She says that the long time family housekeeper found Alex's pills the same year she fell down the stairs and died four das later.
She has a lot to say about alcohol and underage drinking, when high school friends would go to the Murdaugh family home (?Beach houese or the hunting lodge on Moselle Road>) (or both?)

quote:

Beach's mother filed a $50million creditors claim against the estate of Paul and his late mother Maggie, while other boat crash survivors - Doughty and Altman - also filed claims against the Murdaugh estates for $10million and $5million.

Question: were all the claims listed above settled before the Alex Murdaugh double murder trial began, or just those of the Beach family?

quote:

She also recalled how the family's housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield, had found bags of pills belonging to Alex Murdaugh, who was addicted to opioids, and told Paul about it the same year she died from a fall at their estate.

The Beach family is the only one that I’m aware of.

Buster was busting or getting busted by that gay kid Stephen. That kid is clearly bi or gay maybe his dad is too.

Big question is where did all that money go. No way you could use 5 million of oxy in just a few years. That private plan is very suspicious, smuggling has been way of life in lowlands for 100s of years

ThePost Courier link above says that the bomb thread to the Court two weeks ago came from an inmate two counties away and had, apparently, nothing to do with the Murdaugh trial.
