I think his wife had moved out or they were separating?
I think he killed them because he was a sociopath who had escaped blame/charges from deaths around him.
The wife was leaving him (possibly knew things about him) so he killed her.
The son was either in the wrong place for the murder of the wife or he killed him for the boating incident.
The surviving son has to be fricked up from all this.

Is SC a death penalty state? And if so, will they go for that?
We are and we use it quite often. The AG's office didn't seek the death penalty in this case. I think they assumed no jury would be unanimous in that. I would imagine almost every juror in Colleton County knows someone who is good friends with the Murdaugh family.

Wasn’t Murdaugh disbarred from what I recall?

I think so, stemming from embezzling a bunch of money from the law firm he was with.

Yep. Supreme Court here dispensed with the usual fact-finding and issued an order not long after his fraud indictments.

That makes sense.
You answered my next question about people there knowing him. Thanks for the insight. Greatly appreciated.

I bet the journalist/people who have that site with all the info they've gathered are happy to see him going to trial.

Fitsnews would be the place for a lot of the info, but they changed to a pay site a few years back.
I don't know if they'll be able to use this as evidence, but there was a recorded prison conversation between Alex and his surviving son Buster. Alex asked Buster when he was going to the Colleton County farm (where the murders took place) to go hunting. The kid was in shock and told his dad he never wanted to step foot on that property again. It was as if Alex had no understanding as to why his son might not want to be there. A total sociopath.

Just FYI... I think several LawTubers will be covering this trial live
Emily D. Baker, Nick Rekieta, etc.

Third was a young man who might have been more than an acquaintance of the now-dead son, who died as a victim of a hit and run. That's a third dead person with no charges places and a tenuous connection to the family
This victim was tied to the son that is still alive, buster

It was the other son that was supposed to have known/killed him. Buster's his name, I think.

So the documentary that recently came out alleges that Buster and the Smith boy were involved in a homosexual relationship. They also allege that Smith was murdered, but I think it's up in the air as to who killed the kid. I believe Smith's sister stated she didn't think Buster had that in him. A friend from that area also said he thought Paul killed Smith.

While locked up, you would think Murdaugh possessed enough common sense to understand that all jailhouse calls are recorded, as a former attorney.

There was one that had boatloads of info that was linked here a couple years ago when these shitfricks started getting attention. I have it bookmarked somewhere.

This trial is going to be a media shite show.

That's what I was thinking too.
Maybe the convo doesn't have enough relevance. I imagine it'd be easy for a defense attorney to defend those statements if that's all that's said. It'd be interesting to see of the DA thinks it's enough to use on the case against Mur.

LINK
The trial begins Monday.
The link above has a sixty two page document about the trial and is too bloody and descriptive to read before going to sleep. (IMO)
